Aww thank you. Yes I have done a fair bit of research into this situation to be honest. It has stressed me out quite a bit but at least I know now like you say. I can hopefully move on and find something better soon x

I worked for a SM for years going out of my way to help them out when they were short staffed etc. Then a couple of years ago they decided they needed to redo everyone’s hours, some people hardly had any change where as mine had a loss of hours and a change of days. When I challenged them regarding the changes they just said that’s what was on offer, if I wasn’t happy then basically there is the door. That’s when I realised it doesn’t matter what u do u are just a number that they will get rid of, no loyalty or anything. Thankfully a manager of another department was looking for someone to replace a member of the staff who had retired, hours and days were similar to what I was working. Stayed at the store for four more years till I retired, but never went out of my way to help out.

Thanks for that, i have actually been thinking about a very similar situation right this very moment. My work is advertising for a similar role to what i do now, in the same branch but driving and delivering to customers rather than other stores, which is what i do now. Their hours have been cut also, but because they do Saturdays aswell, they have been cut from 42 to 39.5 hours per week. My original hours were 40 hours per week but now reduced to 37.5 hours per week, giving me a reduction in my pay even after the minimum pay rise. But if i took the other job i would be on 39.5 hours a week, and would be £110+ better off than i am on now. I will have to work 4 hours on a Saturday every other week, which isnt really a problem as they aren't very busy on a Saturday anyway. i know the job virtually anyway, the only thing ii would have to learn is where the customers are and thats it really. So i think in the short term, while im trying to find a different job elsewhere this could be a good idea, to help with my rising bills/mortgage costs and enable me to continue my daily investments for my future long term goals. I will be thinking every positive and negative of this option over the weekend and then if i think it is worth a shot, i will be going to speak to the manager on Tuesday when im back in work and see if i can transfer over. Hopefully my useless area manager won't object and spoil the plans. But i think this could be a good option for me to get the money i am losing back in the short term. I also will not be doing the company any favours or going out of my way to help out that is very much for sure.
Thanks for your comment, it was strange how you commented that when i was thinking about something very similar at the exact time.I hope you are enjoying retirement x

Although you have not receive the outcome you wanted with the reduced hours, you took action to understand your options rather than doing nothing which points towards your stregnth of character when faced with a difficult issue.
It's a good idea to speak to the manager on Tuesday as you will be getting some information about the new job and whether you think it will be for you or not - it's a two way street and not just what they want.
In the longer term, this could turn out to be a turning point to better things but with a few twists before you get there so don't lose hope no matter what the short term future holds.
Good luck and enjoy the Easter break.
