Help please
nearly finished a cross stitch cushion - kit not English and no how to turn it into cushion! Do you line the back of the cross stitch (yarn) to stop yarn moving? Will post picture later but really have no idea what to do!
thanks4 -
Another one with a question ….
I have restarted crocheting (never really mastered it, always been more of a knitter 😊) but have got to do casting on (chain stitch) double and treble stitches this evening along with changing colour <- I’ve never managed this before 😊
But my sides are wonky! 😂 As below … Is this just me feeling and practicing my way into a technique for controlling the tension or am I missing something? When I knit I always add two extra stitches to a row - one to slip at the beginning and one to knit at the end, which gives a nice tidy edge - is there an equivalent technique in crochet?
All advice gratefully received 😊

Are you doing your turning chain? Also making sure you do same number of sts in each row as noticed you missed one at end on 2nd row5

Hi all,
@KajiKita I think you have not crocheted into all the stitches. When I am doing a treble I always start the row by chaining 3 then treble into the 1st stitch, or chain 2 if doing double etc, which I think is what @Auti is saying 😁. If you are quite new to it it can take a bit of practice to get it right but you are doing well, just need to keep practicing 😁. I used to knit more than crochet, my dmum taught me when I was a child but can not read a crochet pattern so I get a lot from utube. I can't remember who I watch, I just google it and see who appears 😂. Good luck5 -
Thanks @Auti and @Liverpool_Anne 😊
No I didn’t chain at the beginning of either the double or treble rows but it makes sense that I would need to, to ‘make space for’ those stitches. It’s fascinating to me how different the structure is of crochet to knitting … 😊
Thank you.
One last question; you wouldn’t know of any books of crochet that have drawings of the stitches, shapes and structures in crochet? I’m finding the photos in the books quite hard to see into the detail of, iyswim.KKAs at 15.09.25:

I will go through my books later and take some stitch pics. I know I had some for when I taught a group to crochet. It is much harder to keep crochet straight. You are doing well.craft stash 2023 =161, 2024 = 119 2025 = £25.96 spent, 128 made and 5 mended,

I've been crocheting for a number of years and I still put a stitch marker in the first and last stitches of rows to ensure I don't miss any!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89

@KajiKita this is a UK double crochet if that helps. It doesn't help that American terminology is different. This makes sense to me though as 2 loops on hook mean it's a double crochet.

ok. Ignore the heading on this one as it is from an American pattern. This is a UK treble ( 3 loops on hook). Hope this helps. Please ask if any more questions.
