……..and flying through Ripon this morning just happened to pop in to the YMCA shop and picked up a LBD, Autograph, with a beaded front effect thingy going on. £7.50. Does anyone ever wear a LBD these days? Does anyone ever dress up these days? 🫤. So sad to see the lovely Booths Supermarket is now closed next door….gonna be a boring old Tesco!

I was all dressed up for goddaughter's wedding on Friday - styled by Barnardo's & utterly thankful! Some lassies were in stunning silks (and if they think that's semi-formal, gawd alone knows what they'd wear to a formal bash - corset & diamonds?!), many in floral summer frocks of all lengths & m'goddaughter's brothers & father herded by the matriarch into suits (& devastating handsome too). As the evening settled in, quite a few of the family slipped into something less restrictive but the party rolled on - happily dancing & singing along with Meatloaf Bat out of Hell - not the most obvious wedding song but the whole family & most of the guests knew & joined in!
I do not habitually dress up, being an idle so-&-so, (to say nothing of struggling to find anything that turns up to fit my lack of height) but it was a smashing bash & I was thankful of all the encouragement I received here.
Ethically, I will donate the frock & fascinator back, to go on to solve someone else's sartorial agonies. As am I likely to wear it again? Er, no. It's washed & dried & I hung onto the label so it'll look as new as when I tried it on. Some giraffe might give it a whole new look, or another short round woman be thankful!13 -

I made up for a lack of chazzer satisfaction on Saturday on Sunday. Inspired by another OS thread I bought this for £15: https://drewandcole.com/products/pressure-king-pro-3l/
And another couple of books to add to my shelf on war / history:
No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.7 -

I may have looked fabulous but I lament any Booths closing as I adore the "Oo!" you only get in Booths. The typographic beauty, those wonderful black bags for life that went with everything (even the drystone wall patterned ones were eye-catching and graceful), their brilliant totes (the pie who loved me, the cake district & many others) which have saved me no end of ineffectual screaming at wrapping paper, the orange juice pressing machines (my Inner Toddler just stands & boggles happily).... I depend on the well heeled ladies who lunch to keep them afloat, as I go for the rare-&-then-discounted treats for Christmas stockings & (of course) the coffee.
Also they tend to be ferociously well located - one handy for a Preston hospital, another for a warehouse charity shop, yet another for the yearly exchange of greetings, cards & Christmas cake tins with a loved cousin whom I adore but its just Easier to meet at Booths...

The two best ones are St Gemma’s (the 99p shop) and The 20p Shop, (for books & cards but not strictly a chazza). There is also another newer one, not on the map, PDSA, further along Kirkgate. Being a small market town the people are very friendly so just ask if you get lost. Hope this helps and do report back.
Got a b/n M&S Collection black skirt from St Gemma’s today, (99p of course😁)12 -
Further bonus of charity shop buying - "buyer's guilt" is less severe. OK those of us who are also decluttering may run a ruthless "one in one out" or more stringent variants, but at least we're not leaping blind. Stunning map, Miro & many thanks - now I know (a) where to hunt & (b) have looked up where Otley is...
