@Miró another one who loves the garish dress... I had a very similar pleated one from KM years ago for wedding season... mine was orange and white and had a vaguely oriental design on the material.
Loving all the duck and family history chat and @Rosa_Damascena great haul of books over the last few weeks.
I picked up a few things this week... pair of 'Evie' straight M&S pleather trousers to put away for autumn (£3.50) and a cotton tote bag for a pound. And I splurged £12.99 in Oxfam on a Boden jumpsuit. Looked unworn, Cap sleeves, pockets, geometric pattern and fits beautifully. Really pleased with it.
I've been buying too much on Vinted and REALLY need a sort out of everything...7 -
Went to local High Street mall this morning for some toiletries and popped into CR opposite. Scored 2 x Ironstone Highland Beefeater plates for £3 the pair, a rainbow cross stitch kit, a book by Colleen Hoover, It starts with Us, and entered their £1 lottery. Total spend of £6. Will Ebay the plates for my charity fundraising which has been a bit hit and miss of late. Current fundraising total is £19,155 though so mustn't complainCross-stitch WIP: Haberdashery Shop Fiver Friday challenge 2025 founding member 😊 Read 25 books in 2025 18/25 Currently reading It Starts With Us by Colleen Hoover13

Incredible fund raising! Popped into village charity shop and bought 3 large Kilmer jars for 50 p each and they had restocked the trilogy stuff so a cleanser at £1 and gift set at £3. Have enough bargain bits in cupboard really now so will just watch to see if they get any body wash on the shelves anytimeMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!6 -
You’re lucky to get Kilner jars for 50p @Watty1, round this way you’re lucky to get them for less than £3!I’m just back from a little meander around the Headington chazzers, just mooching as there was nothing I was desperate for. It was warm, and I was a bit tired and slightly fed up, so very nearly didn’t go to the final shop because it was down a bit of a hill. Who am I kidding? It’s about ten shops down a slight incline, nothing more, so I had a stern word with myself and trotted down there.I’ve been doing some decorating, and have been on the lookout for a pair of large cream linen drum style lampshades - the ones I really wanted are £70 (SEVENTY POUNDS!!!) each (EACH!!) in John Lewis, which I couldn’t justify. Yes, dear readers, you have guessed correctly. As I walked into the Helen & Douglas House hospice shop, there to greet me was the exact pair of JL lampshades I has been sighing over online, not a mark on them, I am fairly certain they are brand new, mine for the princely sum of £5 the pair.
So today’s lesson is don’t miss an opportunity because you’re feeling a bit lazy and sorry for yourself, you never know what good fortune might come your way.15 -
@C_J - oh well done you, what a find. I know just what you mean about walking down to that shop, especially when one is already loaded down with bags and so on, so good for you for making the effort.
@Rosa_Damascena - I've read the Nora Ephron which made me laugh a lot so I heartily recommend it. As for the Salt Path, I read that before the film was released and really enjoyed the descriptions of the scenery, the people they met and the predicaments they coped with so hopefully you'll still find it worthwhile.
I was in Summertown yesterday afternoon and went to the Scope shop where I found the Mavis Doriel Hay below for £1 and then I dropped into the rather posh Helen & Douglas House shop there where I found these two cookbooks for £2.50 apiece.
Apologies for the slightly odd photo background, my kitchen surfaces are currently rather cluttered so I propped the books up in front of the fridge freezer!
I'm now determinedly reading the Perfect Host and looking forward to finding the chocolate rabbit recipe while ignoring the news.8 -

Fabulous find on those lampshades C-J don’t you just love it when CS turns up trumps like that!
My recent finds white Gabor loafers which look unworn £5
New Balance white and silver trainers £5
Navy Abercrombie and Fitch tote bag in heavy canvas £5
M and S white PE top £4
Long slinky silver ASOS skirt £4. No ideas where I’ll wear it, but couldn’t resist.
lots still going out. However I feel like some stuff just stuck on Vinted. Has anyone used wardrobe spotlight on Vinted and if so did it work?7 -
I haven’t used Spotlight myself…have heard contrasting views on if it works or not. I try and upload at least one thing each day as I was told it keeps your ‘shop’ active and well up the algorithm for people to see your stuff.
Purchases at Bedale Car Boot yesterday, a b/n Topshop dress for £2 and a huge great plastic tub for £3….great for storing stuff I have listed on Vinted. (Nothing worse than somebody buying something and then you can’t find the bloomin’ thing). The dress had two great long splits up the front of the skirt, (deliberate design), almost knicker revealing 😳. Now busy stitching up said splits! Yikes…..looks much nicer in real life….honest!9
