Lovely dress. I wonder why I ever bought new when I see bargains like that!Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!7 -

To add on to the handbag talk - I brought myself a new handbag the otehr day in the matalan sale as I couldnt find one I liked in our thrift stores. It was meant to be £12 but reduced to £6 and its just a small black bag bug enough to fit phone, purse, keys and maybe a book. But does the job perfectly for what I want it to do!Time to find me again8 -
Well I had a shock earlier when a letter from council tax came, apparently they put our payments up and didnt tell us so whilst I thought I had been paying enough since April, I have infact been underpaying and now have to catch up. It wasnt even a small price hike either - an extra £35 a month. Crikey.
So looks like the charity shops will be my place to go for Xmas bits this year.
I have had a few days off the boards as I celebrated my 41st birthday and have been using my birthday money frugally. MIL gave me a £30 voucher which I have brought myself some binder books with. 1 to help save money, 1 to help lose weight, and 1 to help switch my brain off at the end of the day.
I also got treated to some books at the works 3 for £7.50 but had a bit of a think and was a bit sneaky. I brought one by Billy Connelly which once read will be regifted to my mother who is a fan, one is a cowboy romance type novel which is right up my sisters street and the other one I will probably donate or pass on to a CS again.
As Im getting older Im finding I need a good declutter so Ill be listing on vinted this week and then hitting the charity shops to look for a few heavy bedspreads or comfy cardys!Time to find me again8 -
I love the Jaeger dress but at £30 I would have walked away (because I have similar styles in my wardrobe). If only summer could be year-round!No man is worth crawling on this earth.

I had my hair trimmed this lunchtime so had a quick look around the new BHF Furniture store in the High Street - am really happy its back although I could have done with it a few years ago when I was furnishing my home. I bought a bookmark which is not only practical, but comes with an extra benefit I will put to use next year:
I also went to Barnados and their BN books were £5 for 5 so too good to resist. I ended up abandoning my selection as it was so warm instore I thought I was going to faint.
I bought a lamp from a local chaz not long ago but didn't like the shade that came with it. I was happy to find an art deco capiz shade that suits my home (although is at odds with the style of the base) at the weekend. I fitted it with a new bulb this afternoon - £5 in total, including the bulb:ETA: nighttime shot - lights up my hallway nicely! No man is worth crawling on this earth.

After a disappointing visit to the chemist and surgery (chemist didn't have the prescriptions ready because they've been waiting for a Dr to look at the request for about 10 days!!) I stopped into the little chazzer in the same building. They were in the middle of shifting things about so I didn't stay long but did spot Simon Schama's Dead Certainties supposedly about the death of General Wolfe at the Plains of Abraham in Quebec which was going for a mere £1 despite being practically BNWT. Wolfe's death was a standard history lesson for those growing up in Canada but I'm not sure how much my OH knows about it unless it was a feature of the war games club he went to as a teen. Anyways he's a fan of Schama so it was a nice treat for him I hope and no doubt he'll tell me everything that I've forgotten in the last XX years since my school days.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. @Rosa_Damascena love the lampshade... beautiful!
Today I found two nice dresses... one from Hartford https://hartford.fr/en-int/collections/robes-femme for £5.99. Never heard of this brand before but I like its aesthetic... although not its prices! Dress is shift style, knee-length with a geometric pattern.
and a Warehouse wrap dress in olive green for £8. Photographs terribly but looks nice on. On which note, I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I can't upload photos for some reason. Very frustrating! Any tips gratefully received!4 -
@Magpie100 - I agree that the prices for the Hartford brand are eye-watering, even at "discount"!! Much is made of the provenance and quality of the fabric on the website, without mentioning where they are actually manufactured. Put me out of my misery please, the label says "Made in ....."?No man is worth crawling on this earth.
