I do enjoy her books, I think Cargo of Eagles caused the wartime government a headache because something similar to the plot line (without giving too much away) had taken place. In the end they realised she was not privy to information she shouldn’t have had, it was all a co-incidence,6

Love the Mint Velvet top and necklace. What fabulous finds.
This thread inspires me, so many people buy fast cheap things but this thread shows there are wonderful finds to be had at a lot less than the cheaper shops.
It is also fun - earlier in the month I went out in an expensive designer dress (bought on an outlet website so much cheaper than its ticket price but per wear the dress is now in pennies) teamed with a £1.50 charity shop find jacket.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!6 -
Hello everyone, hope you're having a good weekend and it isn't raining in your neck of the woods.
I popped into my favourite BHF shop this afternoon to find it absolutely heaving with customers and the poor volunteer at the till rather wilting under the strain, I've never seen it so busy before now which is interesting.
I bought this silicon spatula, £1, because it hasn't any joints to trap food and John L*wis have stopped stocking that type so I snapped this one up. I also bought a pasta implement, £1, to see if it's as useful as I hope it will be.
Then I had a browse through the trousers and found these three pairs, navy M&S cotton straight legs £6, olive Rohan for gardening £8 and stone Cos linen/cotton mix £6.
They all need a wash but apart from that I can't see any problems so these should keep me going through the warmer weather that we're promised for next week.4 -
Another one loving the Mint Velvet & necklace combo….very stylish 🤗
After the big splurge last week I restrained myself today at the Bedale Car Boot Sale and the Thirsk one….spent just a whopping 50p on a silk scarf 😁

@Miró I meant to say that I spotted a pair of Dubarry boots this afternoon in central Oxford and I'm sad to report that they hadn't seen any polish or any TLC for a while so they looked rather tired and the rest of the wearer's outfit was nothing to write home about either. (Miaow)
PS lovely scarf there, that was a good spot. I can't often be bothered to look through a huge basket of jumbled up scarves but you and @Brie do remind me that treasure awaits the patient searcher."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."

@Watty1 that sounds like a lovely outfit! I can't tell you how much happier I feel buying second hand. I'm not perfect, and I know I am very lucky to have the time to search and the aptitude. I think there's so much psychology behind what and how we buy, and it's shaped at a very young age. I also know that if you had told 25-year-old me that by the time I was 45 most of my wardrobe would be secondhand, I wouldn't have been at all impressed! As I get older, though, I can't shake the feeling that so much stuff already exists and the Earth's resources have gone into it. I don't want to encourage manufacturers to make MORE, unless it's completely necessary. And for what I need, it's generally not.
@goldfinches great trouser haul; love a bit of Cos!
Wishing you all a happy evening; I'm wearing a secondhand Uniqlo shirt and secondhand woollen socks... waiting for the sun tomorrow!8 -
Ooooh @Magpie100 I am so with you there! Cannot remember the last time I bought anything in a proper shop. 20 yr old me would have thought….secondhand…ewwww, no thanks. Now I wear my bargain buys with pride, both for finding a bargain and also doing a little bit to save the planet.
@goldfinches I’m surprised that central Oxford would have ‘tired’ Dubarry wearers! Here, ooop North we tend to get pretentious 2nd home owners in pristine Dubarry, Holland and Cooper, Barbour etc and real country folk in mucky, well worn, handed down relics 🫤9
