@Miró - that skirt looks almost too good to wear! Its the kind of garment that would languish at the back of my wardrobe for "best" and never see the light of day again.
My vicarious contribution to this thread is a good news story I have just heard on the radio:Charity shop 'shocked' as Bible sells for £56,000.
No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.4 -
Another one off out on the hunt for a large stock pot today…..if no luck will just have to use 2 pans. Tried to shop for the Dishoom Dahl ingredients yesterday. Ginger paste and black lentils eluding me. Found some called ‘dark lentils’….wonder if they would do?
Had to find that poster…….😋

@goldfinches Oh my!!! Just had a squiz at that 'Ace of Shades' site
Now if only some of those lamps were to turn up in a chazza! *sigh*
Went back to the chaise long shop this morning, (well why wouldn't you), picked up two glass & chrome side tables for £7 each....perfect for those conservatory G & T's to perch on. Still in car as need 'assistance' to move them. Also got a b/n pair of Monsoon ankle boots in navy suede & leather for £8. Sadly too tight around the ankle so will have to re-home or re-sell

@joedenise - thankyou for the kind thought, I'm going to continue looking for a while but will keep that link just in case.
@Miró - did you look at her videos where she shows you how she renovates old lamp shade frames with new fabrics? It looks eminently doable if one can use a needle and thread so I'm keeping an eye out for any interestingly shaped shades that could be given a new life.
I bought this urad dal from a local Indian grocer and have already used it to make Georgina Hayden's version which I can't recommend for either her method or the final result but I don't think it was the fault of the ingredients IYSWIM. I have seen ginger paste in the aforementioned grocer's shop as well as in Sains and Marks locally so maybe I could post you a jar if you can't find it in Yorkshire. I do like your suggestion of halving the recipe so will keep that in mind as a back up possibility too.
Hooray for the G & T tables and boo about the boots, what a let down, but they look in lovely condition so should sell easily shouldn't they?
@Rosa_Damascena - what a great story, thanks for posting that link, really heartwarming to read.
In other news I dropped into my favourite BHF shop today but didn't find anything I liked well enough to bring home with me. Of course I forgot to take the bag of donations I'd sorted out and put ready inside the front door!I'll try again later in the week.

I must go back and watch the videos that you mention....I did once have a go at recovering an old frame but gave up at the binding the wire stage, ( it was a very complicated shape for a first timer!)

I'm tempted to try and grow my own this summer: https://www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/grow-plants/how-to-grow-ginger/ .
What I forgot to do is post about yesterday's chazzer foray. I ventured into Barnardo's after having my hair done and was able to resist everything, even the BN books. I think the thrill may have finally worn off which is a good thing, because it was starting to become a real problem! No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.7 -
@Miró apologies for my tardy reply to the Dahl questions... Yes, if you have a specialist Indian shop then that's the place to go. I use Urad lentils. You can also usually buy minced/pre-prepared ginger and garlic either together or separately, which is very handy. And I just use my biggest Le Cruset saucepan. I am not really a recipe-follower (!) so I put in as much water as the pan will take, and top it up with boiling water from the kettle if needed. I like to do things by eye!
I will see if I can get a photo of me in my peacock finery when I next wear the blouse...7 -
@Miró - do watch the videos which are wonderfully entertaining and make it all look tremendously easy, which may of course be completely untrue, but we can all dream can't we.
@Rosa_Damascena - I keep meaning to cultivate my own ginger plant, especially when I see roots with shoots for sale, but somehow have never quite got round to it so thankyou for that link. Congratulations to you for having broken your chazza habit, a great achievement.
@Magpie100 - I think it was me who asked about your Art Deco peacock blouse so I'm looking forward to seeing it.
I popped into my favourite BHF shop this afternoon and found three Resnick novels including the first one of the series so snapped them up for £2 apiece. I also finally found a Breton style top with long sleeves and a lovely thick 100% cotton fabric from Joules, I've been looking for one of these for a long time so I'm very pleased and paid £8. Then I also took a chance on a BNWT George thin denim short sleeved shirt dress with no breast pockets which was reduced to half price. It's a bit lighter in colour than I prefer but for £6 I'll at least try it on and see how it looks.
ETA: The top and the dress have both been returned this morning, the neck of the top wouldn't lie flat at the front and the shoulder seams of the dress were different lengths so that it looked odd on me. Very disappointed but have other places to search another day."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."

Another jacket!
But also one of those fab weeks when the CS magically seems to have the very items you’re looking for.
Mango black military jacket £3. Two have been redonated to appease the CS gods.
Black wide legged M and S trousers with white stripes £4 (and short length so no need for alterations)
M and S black long sleeve thermal top £2
Small but heavy turquoise G and T glass 50p
Joules blue and white square necked top £4 but I think I may have the same issue as you @goldfinches re the neckline.Silver make up bag with a star £1.
Just Like Floss book for DGS which I had been looking for. £2.50.
Best of all though I was delighted earlier in the week to find a cute Cornishwaresque tin for £1.30 along with 3 Swinnertons Somerset Blue Cornishwaresque pasta bowls for £2.50. But then in town this morning with DH spotted genuine Cornishware butter dish with lid in perfect condition for £3 ( they go for £30 on Vinted) and also genuine Cornishware sugar storage jar for £5.
I have donated 3 huge bags this week of mine and DS’ stuff.9 -
