2025 DECLUTTERING CAMPAIGN MrsSD - The Joy of Decluttering

Mr V and his mate put a curtain pole up in the sitting room. Previously there had only been net curtains. It looks so much more homely and it is much warmer too. True to my word of trying to spend no more than £100 to furnish each room, the curtain pole cost £5 and the curtains were free. They are short. I am considering my options for adding a complimentary piece across the bottom. It would be easier from the top but the curtains have a goblet top which would be a shame to unpick. Mr V's mate has almost convinced me to keep a window seat in the bay. It is lovely in parts. There is a very noticeable brass vent on the base which is not in the middle. It bothers me! Perhaps I could paint it black.
I have had a re jig of the dining room. Lots of boxes destined for a shed. I emptied 2 boxes of kitchen stuff and found everything a home. This kitchen has masses more storage than the previous one. I am looking unsuccessfully for my dressing gown. I managed to move one of the table tops enough to be able to put 3 boxes of Christmas decorations in the built in cupboard. It is looking better in there. Still more to do. I have unearthed rather a lot of lamps.
Lots of things from the previous owner for the charity shop today. Plus from us a little drinks trolley thing and a light fitting. The ceiling isn't high enough for it. One of the lamps can go too. Possibly more in the future. The Sally Army shop takes electricals. Mr V will be passing by today to see the Nottingham contingent of the family and then his old work mates. I have a day to myself so I have been awake hours planning what I would like to do in the dining room.
Thank you for the lemons tip Floss.I will do that. I do lemons when I clean the microwave but hadn't thought of it for a dishwasher.. I will add cleaning the dish washer to my list. I still haven't given the oven another clean. Perhaps later.
My son is talking about coming up with DS1 to go to watch a local football team then staying the night. I would like to be a bit straighter before then. At least have a dining table to sit at. I have a choice of 2. One was used as a headboard at the old house and the other matches the chairs and extends but isn't a looker.
Mrs SD, we haven't met the neighbours yet, but someone brought our bin back last week which was nice. Mr V was like Santa last night. Taking his sack of recycling a walk up the road at 10 pm and distributing it into peoples bins! Not much room in the bins because of the change of day which has thrown the cycle out.
Thank you for LCL's medal and flowers. I will get her some real ones for when she comes next week. She is quite enjoying having some good gritty cleaning to get her teeth into. Wait till she sees the downstairs loo !!!! Not the loo itself, just the grim paintwork and peeling radiator... and pipes. Pipes everywhere. Far more pipes than a very small room should have on show!
Better get cracking. Vx:12 -
@Wednesday2000 - so sorry to hear about your cat.
@Vulpix - loving the moving tales which resonate with me from last year. It will be a year on 15th November. Three rooms out of six done - slow going and expensive. I managed to clean up the cooker here with lots of elbow grease and it looks like new in my new unit. The dishwasher did work but gave up the ghost a few weeks after it had been installed in the new unit. Too old to repair - probably at least 15 years. I have a shiny new one now.
Thanks for medals for me and DD Mrs SD.
Decluttered DGD2 back home after a nice few days. I need to do frogs and will count them this time. My MRI for today cancelled as machine broken - been waiting since July. I bought a few more Christmas stocking gifts. I have started going through some of the stuff in lounge as I am hoping to rehome some of it in my bedroom wardrobe where there will be empty shelves once the spare bedding goes under the new bed in bedroom 2. (still in boxes)
1008 Empty inhalers in bag to drop off at pharmacy
1009 Huge pile of magazines sorted - some I will see if DIL wants others in recycling

Vulpix could you out a matching brass vent on the other side to balance? Doesn't need to actually vent, just screwed on top would fool the eye and make it matching22: 3🏅 4⭐ 23: 5🏅 6 ⭐ 24 1🏅 2⭐ 25 🏅 🥈⭐ Never save something for a special occasion. Vulpix I lengthened my curtains a few years ago with a strip of fabric attached to the lining. I thought they looked ok. Not goblet tops though

Yes the one in St James Street Newport closed didn't he, fabulous meat from there. Only got the shop in Cowes High Street now. I try to go there when I go to the Family History coffee mornings at Northwood Cemetary, as I'm only just up the road from Cowes then.suzeesu2000 said:.
@London_1, you are so right about using the little shops on the island. They really were life savers during the pandemic. We use a lovely butcher in Cowes, he delivers too. The Butchers Shop is the name. Sadly they had to close their other shop in Newport just last month.
Brilliant butchers ,but I'm definitely going to give the Ryde one a try as it will be nearer for me and I'm usually in Ryde town centre on a Wednesday as its Knit and Natter day.
So many lovely independant businesses on the island .I'm also going to try the farm in Smallbrook Lane, Ashey as I go past it when ever I drive to Newport I may try there for the Christmas turkey

Beautiful day here. Didn’t bother even opening the sitting room curtains as it was so dark. Put the standard lamp on and it’s been so cosy sitting listening to the rain, terrific downpours around tea time, poor little ones got soaked trick or treating.Dinner for both from pantry today, nice and easy one. Got joint of pork out to defrost for weekend.Plan for tomorrow is to declutter some more from under the bed. In an ideal world, I would make enough space to accommodate the contents of three large lidded plastic boxes that are stacked in the corner of the bedroom. I shall certainly be giving that a try. Fingers crossed.
Haven’t dealt with the ottoman in the sitting room bay window yet, Frankie said I had to play with him😸

Moved my tomato plant - I don't know if anyone remembers the story of the 3 plants that spontaneously generated from a bag of compost, one of which was a real survivor and I was hoping to overwinter last year? Well I didn't get much fruit off it - partly again due to going away and not watering properly - but I did get some and it's still healthy so I got it a proper support this year. If it looks anything like this at Christmas I might even put a star on the top.
