Slow start....I'd bought a 6 pack of Walkers baked crisps and even my gannet OH doesn't like them. So I'll take them to the FB and see if there's any takers there. Also unearthed a missing Christmas gift bag containing violent creams. OH will def declutter those in record time.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. Happy New Year all.
I'll join for 2025 please, without a total as I will also just clear, and not count. Wow 20 pages already! I enjoy the thread, and will need to continue to dip in and out, due to the speed of the train relative to available time!
We've been decluttering in the background. There's always a big charity shop bag on the go. It's full and so we will drop it off this weekend. It has a mug in and some of DS's too small clothes, amoungst other things.
It's moving year. Well done on the unpacking @GrannyKate and I'm glad the numbering system is working well for unpacking. We are getting quotes from removal companies. We hope to do more clearing out this weekend. Like one of the newcomers mentioned, I also hang on to clothes I've not worn for years. Maybe some will go this weekend.
I will list some pjs on ebay. I've not joined Vinted but hear it's good. I got some gifted at Christmas which were too big (doesn't usually happen), and I have some from a Christmas past, still with tags on, that I don't like due to the sleeves being short. I might just see if the new house is warmer before I get rid of them, or keep them for warm summer use. I've not worn them in the current cold house.
Off to the quiet coach after the hecticness of Christmas.22 -
@Mrs_Salad_Dodger LO is delighted to receive the 1st award off the year, Thankyou ❤️
DH has parted with cups and sourcers ( 30 years old, never been used) so I am very delighted. They went to the charity shop this morning before he could change his mind! Also some plates and utensils I hid 6 months ago and he hasn’t noticed.
2 more bags of toys LO has found to be given to a colleague for his daughter - I will take them to work on Monday.
LO made her own drink but left the freezer slightly open when getting ice cubes ( I didn’t check) so it’s completely iced up, been defrosted but I am on a use up mission now. There’s a lot of fish in there. So January will be eat lots of fish month 😂
When the Christmas decorations go back in the loft cupboard of doom I will see if there’s anything else that I can get out the house - I think I’ve only been in there a couple of times in the last 12 months so potentially more to sort through!
So Many are making a great start to decluttering this year! Very motivating thread 😊22 -
I took down my Christmas decs this morning . A small box ready to send to the charity shop in November. No point handing then in just now as they don't store stuff for that length of time. Rest all tidy and into the cupboard.21

- Write a daily To Do list - only 3 tasks
- Concerted effort to sort out sleep patterns - Realistic targets: bed by 2:00 a.m. & up by 10:00 a.m
- Continue dealing with mail & email on a daily basis
- Don’t put it down, put it away + deal with mini tasks as soon as they are noticed e.g. refill olive oil pourer or salt cellar, stitch up a hole in a garment etc
- Commence ‘Operation Frog Tickling’ using the acronym - I.R.I.S. (Identify, Research, Implement, Sign Off) - One per quarter
- Continue to keep kitchen clean & tidy - before going to bed
Friday: up & dressed by 11:05. It is a bright crisp day & there was an overnight frost. Expected high 4°C, low-2°C 🥶 ERNIE was unkind to me for the 2nd month in a row 🙁 but at least DH had a win 😊 Received a worrying email from my CC provider but after a phone call to my bank & then the CC company it was all sorted - just an automated response 😮💨 Deleted the email & continued with a declutter of my email account. Now settling down to some cheerleading
Welcome aboard the EDT grunnie 👋 You have taken your first step into the world of decluttering 😊 I see that daisy_1571 has posted a comprehensive list of tips & ideas to help not only you but all our other newbies & our veterans as well 👏 Good luck 🍀
Welcome back Deni_debt-free_dreamer 👋 Well done on keeping potential clutter out 👏 I sometimes think that is half the battle 😉 Good luck with your January project of decluttering the spare room & converting it to use as your office 🍀
kayjay1809, loving the conversation you are having with weenancyinAmerica 😊 Hopefully you can cheer each other on as you tackle your decluttering 🤞😊
florianatwobob some lovely ideas for kayjay1809 😊👏 Yippee to continuing to add ££s to your ‘Loft Conversion Fund’ 🥳
weenancy loving the conversation you are having with kayjay1809 😊
Lovely post vulpix 😊 Great tips about creating a ‘haven’ & ‘using ad breaks’ 👏 Sadly, the ad breaks tip usually doesn’t work for me as I mostly record programmes & fast forward through the ad breaks 😅
What a splendid post daisy_1571 🤩 A wealth of useful information & all in one place 👏 & yes, I did read the whole thing 😊 I had completely forgotten about Dana, so it was nice to be reminded 😊 Your post has moved me to make my 2nd Award of the Year - a medal 🏅 is on its way 🙂
Lovely to see you back DundeeDoll 👋 especially as you are already fired up & ready to go 😊 Targets noted & I am keeping everything crossed that your email decluttering goes as planned 🤞
BlueJ94, 3 mugs might not be much in your view But remember that is 3 more items less than you had 👏 Every single item out is a win 😊
Such a lovely cheerleading post Moorviews 😊 Thank you for my 🌟 I love your motto for the year ahead “……start small - anything that happens after that is a bonus” Your plans for the year have been noted & I wish you every success 😊 Positive decluttering vibes have been sent into the ether & will hopefully land on MrMV & your DS so that they will take every opportunity to declutter their sheds & the garage 🤞
Another page caught up 🙂 My DB phoned & chatted to my DH - ‘eventful news’ which of course immediately translates to bad news (in my mind 😔) - DB pranged his car (no injuries 😮💨) but quite a lot of damage 😞 However, not written off & now in the garage for repair 🙂 A month ago he was ‘flashed’ by a mobile speed camera so potentially a fine 🙁 Lastly his FiL was set to go into hospital to have a couple of heart stents fitted but when he turned up for this routine op, scans showed that a bypass would be more suitable. DB’s FiL has now had a quadruple heart bypass & will be in hospital for a month. As my DH said better that it was done as a precaution rather than an emergency 😮💨 Just for a change all the good news came from my DH to my DB - he chatted about the visit of our cousin from Australia & the family parties. Will now post & run 🙂 but hope to be back later 🤞

Good afternoon 😊 Thanks for the welcome Mrs S_D.
The declutter total from yesterday was 20. Eighteen of that was from the living room and another two from the kitchen. Thats 35 so far this week.
I have been decluttering here and there last year but didn't keep count. I did take two black bags of "things" to the charity shop just before Christmas but I'm thinking that the under layer of things that just get stuffed back into drawers need to be dealt with this year. It's scary when I realise how many years I've just been tidying things back into the same drawer/cupboard just for them to get more stuff piled on top and then the drawer is messy again so I do the same thing all over again.
Last year I finally dealt with/decluttered the paperwork for my two smallest pensions. One resulted in a payment of £300 which was actually more of refund so no further payment. The other one resulted in a lump sum payment and a small regular payment - the first monthly amount was paid today so I'm pleased with that. Both things were frogs and I'm happy that they have been sorted.22 -
Nothing major done today - it's been one of those days with more steps back than forward! But I had 3 deliveries, one small of furniture polish ready for when I can clean the wooden furniture, one was a 25kg bag of dishwasher salt. While I use the dishwasher a lot, I've actually got that for de-icing the steps up from my house. The final delivery was 12/14kg sacks of birdseed and of bird peanuts. The boxes from the salt and bird food have been broken down and placed in the garage waiting for the next cardboard collection. That's probably the fastest that packaging has ever left the house! 😁
I had a trip into town to try and open a new savings account - sent away until Monday because I'm a new customer so I have to have a face-to-face meeting. I would have done it online but because one my addresses over the past 3 years is out of the country, the online form can't accept a non-UK postcode.
Next door to the building society was a charity shop where I had a good rummage but came away without anything. I'm trying to be stricter about what I do and don't buy and definitely stopping the "well, it will do until I find what I want" mentality. Before, I would do that and then not get rid of the 'temporary' item. I've also found that by waiting I often decide that actually I don't want or need what I thought I did. 🤣
Decluttered chicken carcass from the fridge and I have a large pan of stock cooling ready for freezing/soup if the snow arrives. I've decluttered a cylinder's worth of gas - my heater ran out today but I do have a replacement cylinder so no urgency to get a refill before any bad weather we may get at the weekend.
