A sparkly new thread and - gosh - 66 of us. How exciting - greetings to all and also those lurking - don't be shy...
My aims for 2025 are:
Another year of not buying clothes (except undergarments). I found it easy in 2024 as no clothes shops here so the only temptation was buying online but there's really nothing I need.
Also have plenty of notebooks so banned from buying them. I have started a new one. Half is things to do this year, the other half listed meal plans which saves on trying to find lost bits of paper with random scribbles on.
Declare all items in. I keep a money diary so I know what comes in but having to declare them here might make me think twice about whether the purchase is really necessary. Despite huge decluttering the Room of Doom is worse than ever so something has to give.
Keep bulging pantry at a more manageable level.
Sort out house maintenance (sound familiar?): contact builder, odd job person, double glazing co and plumber.
Get oohtube Watch Later list down to max 50 (currently 184).
Read some books and listen to some new to me music.
Stop buying too many multiples of things just because they're on offer.
Cut back on reading the news.
Sort some old work pensions via new Government dashboard.
Continue using up last year's listed items and sell more items on fleabay and FB.
Find: new aran jumper from 5+ years ago, missing clothes pegs, and the rest of my marbles.
Keep going everybody.

I would like to rejoin please.
I am basically at maintenance, but find that I have little creeping problem areas that cycle.
So, plan for 2025 is
1. Declutter extensive candle and wax melt collection. No new ones to be bought until I have space.
I did make a start on this and have given away 4x wax melts that I wasn't keen on the scent when they burnt.
2. Declutter toiletries. Once again I have a stash of lovely smellies, including one of the gigantic lush boxes in the sale for Mr Puppy. So work through those, and no buying new until levels have reduced significantly (even if on sale!)
3. Declutter last 12 kilos. 2024 was a year of staying broadly the same weight, but now I am ready to knuckle down and commit to losing.
4. Stay in maintenance. Consider before buying, is this something that I have a need for, and space for.
Good luck to everyone joining or rejoining, if you are new I would highly recommend reading along even if you don't post as there are always tips and tricks being posted.
Someone mentioned The Year of Less, and I would also recommend it. It's an easy read, but was quite interesting. If you have the borrow box library app, it's available on there.24 -
Happy New Year all,
Keeping track as I go or I will forget and will read and catch up on posts.
This morning put a compartment from a vintage jewellery box in the bin! I struggle with anything for landfill and technically it could still be used for storage, however a wise member of the declutterai family explained that our homes shouldn't be waiting rooms for landfill (I think expressed better than this).
Went out to return item but the shop was closed and just read about the Japanese Osouji - the big clean for the new year, so motivated me, although some tidying needing before I can clean. Putting things I may sell in a drawer to not get side tracked and can revisit for donation instead, however, doing more donations.
Plastic wallet out
Handbag, jumper, soft storage bag, evening bag and hoodie in CS bag. Other items in CS bag counted last year.
Also some receipts and labels etc

Happy New Year.
I slept in late as I was up watching TV and YouTube last night. Very rock and roll. It isn't a very nice start to the year weather wise as it has just started pouring with rain here. I just went and closed all the windows as it is quite windy too. My house sounds like something from a horror film when it is windy and there are any windows even slightly open! It looks like it will be like this until this evening according to the BBC.
I'm fairly on top of things regarding decluttering at the moment as I had a very quiet Christmas and have done bits and pieces around the house, a drawer a day etc... but I want to keep on top of it. The only thing is my wardrobe, but I have seen a few shops saying they aren't taking donations at the moment so that will have to wait. I want to be much more mindful of what I am bringing into the house, from charity shops and from Amazon, especially!

Been sorting this morning and now have a suitcase full of clothes in the porch and 2 bags - 1 - is not full yet - for the charity shop.
Going to do some more sorting after lunch.
Went to bed just after 11 last night as I had been out and busy all day so was tired.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Hello to you all, I have lurked for a while but I now want to jump in and make 2025 the year for me to declutter this house.
Some really great advice on the thread, thank you. I read the Dana decluttering book a few weeks ago and liked her ideas, I just need to actually consistently apply them.
I am recently widowed, and my late husband was a collector of things with many hobbies who had slowly taken over most of the house for his various projects. The house is full of Stuff, and this needs to change. Apart from anything else the house itself is an unfinished project and I will need the electrician/plasterer/plumper/window replacers to get access to all of the rooms.
Todays project is my tiny study which is currently full of admin and things that do not belong. Time to root the shredder out!My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Happy new year decluteratti chums. I got home from a party after Mr V who had been working, oops. I have just woken up and after catching up here, I am raring to go.
I picked up my fitbit which has been on charge and it said it was 6:15 am. Confused me greatly Mr V nowhere to be found so I opened my laptop and there you all were, and it was 12:15! Mr V was outside talking to people.
basketcase, your method of decluttering is a firmed up version of how I have decluttered. It worked for me, half the trick is finding a decluttering method or methods that makes sense to you, the other half is having the motivation to stick with it. I found having one area complete made me want more areas complete. I wouldn't say it's ever finished.A further pass of an area will always provide more to go because I found my thinking had changed and I became more ruthless. I did get a little obsessed at one point but recognising that was all it took to step back and just declutter as I go. I think it is now a habit for me to notice things that need attention and I will never have far too much stuff ever again.
I made a big dinner yesterday so we just have to heat up leftovers today. I also made sure the house was tidy before we went out last night as I hate coming in or getting up to piles of stuff these days. So business as usual and I will tidy my wardrobe. I buy mostly second hand so I don't mind donating these clothes. It's a win win for charity. I buy from a charity, it goes back to a charity to be sold again. I very, very rarely sell stuff. I used to and have made thousands in the past. We just don't have much left that we could get rid of that is worth much. A few things in the shed but that is another story.
So this year and probably every future year, my focus will be clothes and the sheds. Mr V has 3 sheds which can always be worked on. I have a shed which I think is ok, gardening tools etc. Our other declutter focus this year is weight. I have weighed myself today and am 2lbs more than last NYD. The amount of lebkuchen I have put away, I am surprised it isn't a lot more. We have a holiday booked for April so that is our motivation.
Good luck to us all on our journey, Thank you , Mrs SD. Vx

Helloooooooo!!!!!!!!
I have updated my signature for this years goals - the more green things is to do with the outside with plants and dog walks. My decluttering figure has been increased and my miles reset.4 frogs this year, 1 is a continuation of last year.
A huge welcome to the newbies! This is an awesome forum with lovely people and the best cheerleader MrsSD ❤️
Remember no question is a stupid question, if you get stuck on something just ask, sometimes your mind can play tricks on you demanding you do x y or z with your decluttering.
This isn’t a race! It took time to build up the unneeded items and will take time to get rid of it….although hubby’s propensity to collect A boxes does need addressing…….🤣
I am happy to lend dogs 1 and 2 to the TLC for cuddles. They are very cuddly and also complete characters so should put a smile on your face!
Take care xxx⭐️⭐️⭐️🥇🥇🥇 2024 decluttering

- Write a daily To Do list - only 3 tasks
- Concerted effort to sort out sleep patterns - Realistic targets: bed by 2:00 a.m. & up by 10:00 a.m
- Continue dealing with mail & email on a daily basis
- Don’t put it down, put it away + deal with mini tasks as soon as they are noticed e.g. refill olive oil pourer or salt cellar, stitch up a hole in a garment etc
- Commence ‘Operation Frog Tickling’ using the acronym - I.R.I.S. (Identify, Research, Implement, Sign Off) - One per quarter
- Continue to keep kitchen clean & tidy - before going to bed
Happy New Year One & All. I was up & dressed by 11:30 & then decided to look outside - it has been raining but is currently just very windy & overcast 🙁 I have taken my old calendar down & a new one is in its place. A friend of ours is a wildlife photographer & has created her own calendar featuring her photos - January is a short-eared owl in full flight 😍 Now to start on this year’s cheerleading 🙂
Nice to see you Marpau 👋
Welcome back Thriftwizard 👋 Of course you can join in 😊 It does sound like 2024 is a year you would sooner forget 😔 but now 2025 has dawned. Although the weather isn’t great it sounds like you are fired up & raring to go 😊 Fingers crossed that you can sell/auction off all your unsold stock & can then restock your stall with all new items that have been lovingly created in your decluttered ‘sewing room’ 🤞I am of course looking forward to seeing the odd picture or three of your handicrafts 🙏
Welcome back Muddy_Walker 👋 I am keeping everything crossed that 1. your ‘Musts List’ is done & dusted in the first quarter of 2025 especially the PIP tribunal 🤞2. the dogs will let you save for your own cruise 😉 & 3. the weather is more stable & we actually have a proper summer 🤞
Nice to see you back diminua 👋 Congratulations on reaching Maintenance Mode on your Decluttering Journey 👏 Perhaps the +7 can be reallocated as birthday presents 🤔

Nice to meet you Tjh1412 👋 Firstly good luck in your search for ‘your forever home’ 🍀 What a great decision to start your decluttering (and packing) well in advance 👏 It will not only save time but should hopefully make the move less stressful 😊 An excellent start on the 29th & yes you are correct - 99 items out 🥳 As I am a bit behind on my cheerleading, I do hope you were successful in tackling the under stairs cupboard 🤞We will definitely notice & will take every opportunity to cheer you on 😊
Welcome aboard the EDT Yankee24 👋 Hopefully 2025 will prove to be more successful in your flat hunting 🤞Good luck 🍀 Meanwhile 🤩 - it sounds like 2024 was a very successful decluttering year 👏 An empty loft & several empty rooms as well 👏 I am looking forward to following your decluttering journey & will wave to you from East London 😉
