I suspect it might be. Use an account with an overdraft, then the £300 can sit in another account earning ~4-5% for the day.Aidanmc said:
So maybe its better to do card payments into Hanley rather than bank transfers?Ch1ll1Phlakes said:Hanley BS
Opened my account 27/10 around 8pm and made first payment by card using application reference. Received email about welcome pack on 28th at 11am. Phoned today to confirm the account was open and funded, which it was. Also was given my User ID over the phone. Checked my online account (setting a new User ID) and found payment was recorded as 27/10.
Very happy with this all. Just gonna wait on the letters in the post that I no longer need.
In fact, I think I'll cancel the standing order. Shame Halifax stopped their rewards!I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?2 -
Will you try to claim it back from Scottish BS?Cweb said:Scottish Building Society
Finally received my log-in details dated 14th October. Feel a bit less smug now about using the freepost address (appreciate their entirely not linked) as they’ve sent me the details in a non-franked envelope and not paid the postage, so Royal Mail have booked the receipt date as 25th October then charged me £5 to find out the contents of the mystery mail.
Hopefully it’s a one-off rather than a batch problem.2 -
Principality BS back up and fully operational now.3

Scottish BSIt seems they are through the backlog as my postal application, which I sent last Thursday (freepost), probably received Monday, has been processed and the cheque deducted from my linked account today. Good to know I've got a payment in for October, which was the hope when sending.2

Also worth noting that for anyone wishing to open their 6 Month RS who was waiting till the end of the month to open it, now would be a good time to open it.pecunianonolet said:Principality BS back up and fully operational now.
If you open the 6 Month RS tomorrow it'll mature on 30th April 2026, giving you the same maturity date as if you'd opened it today, resulting in here being no advantage delaying your application by a day.2 -
Just a reminder that for those who have it the NLA Coventry BS Loyalty Seasonal Saver allows penalty-free withdrawals from Saturday 1/11/25.
This may be of particular note if you're in the position of not having enough funds to feed November's regular savers and are looking for accounts to raid given that the account's rate now stands at 5.25%.8 -

It does, but not in it is the username or the password you are going to need to manage the account online, just the account Terms and Conditions and an FSCS information sheet. That is what those of us new to Hanley are waiting for in the Royal (Snail) Mail. If you are a new customer, I don't get why you cannot set up a UserID and password when opening an account.Slinky said:HanleyJust in case anybody was wondering, the Hanley Welcome Pack comes by email.1 -
They want confirmation that your address is correct, which is presumably why they send the temporary one time UserID in the post. Other BS send validation codes in the post that you need to enter once online for a similar reason, often when linking an external bank account.Confused_Dog said:

You'd think the ID checks performed prior to account opening would cover that.0
