My wife had that. We did a speculative £50 in and it stuck so a week later we topped up with £950 and then another £1000 at turn of month.janusd said:

I think it may be a coincidence and that it just happens to be a time they are doing some gardening so to speak. I had 2 RSs that accidentally opened when the app was being very stroppy recently . Naturally I tried to fund both but the funds bounced back twice, once from a transaction that was an internal transfer from my MBS easy saver and once a FP from my current account. That was weeks ago but only in past few days the ghost RS has disappearedBridlington1 said:Regarding Monmouthshire BS ``phantom accounts":
Each of my phantom accounts had been ones that had been opened but never funded for whatever reason.
I've done a spot of experimenting and there may be a way of getting rid of the phantom accounts from the app. I simply sent £1 to each of the phantom accounts on Saturday, the £1s bounced back and landed in my current account yesterday.
I've just checked the app and the accounts have now disappeared so I'm just left with the open accounts only showing in the app.
It could also be a complete coincidence but I thought I'd mention it anyhow just in case it works for anyone else.0 -

I sent £50 as £50 is the minimum to open the account with. My £50 landed safely. Maybe your £1 bounced back as it was below the minimum?Bridlington1 said:Regarding Monmouthshire BS ``phantom accounts":

Just a reminder the following interest rate cuts come into effect tomorrow:
Account Old rate New rate Date Principality BS 1 Year Triple Access Regular Saver 5.15% 4.95% 18/09/2025 Principality BS First Home Steps Issue 5 4.40% 4.20% 18/09/2025 10 -
These were only accounts that had been opened (in some cases over 2 years ago) but never funded so closed as a result so I was expecting them to bounce regardless. The accounts in question had minimum balances of £1 though.surreysaver said:

It was more a slight experiment, I wanted to get rid of the dead accounts from the app and noticed they all seemed to be the ones that hadn't been funded so wondered if sending a £1 payment and having it bounced would generate a transaction on the account, thus helping the system recognise it's closed and prompt it to be removed.
As it stands it seems MBS beat me to it so were removing them regardless.1 -
@janusd, personally I’d try funding it with a minimum payment to start with, if it doesn’t bounce back the next day and appears in the app you should be good to go with funding it fully. If it bounces back you know you can’t fund it and no harm done. My husband’s second R/S Issue 8, which we didn’t realise had been opened at around beginning August, as unable to access the app until recently, has now been fully funded for this month by making a minimum payment of £5 and a further £495 the following day and didn’t bounce back.janusd said:

The interest rate is absolutely awful but perhaps worth opening and funding with £10 per month for the draw.Bridlington1 said:Coventry BS are launching a Sunny Day Saver (2) at 4.3% (var), £150/mth, unlimited withdrawals.

It's more like Dark Days as far as Coventry BS and regular savers are concerned.Bridlington1 said:Coventry BS are launching a Sunny Day Saver (2) at 4.3% (var), £150/mth, unlimited withdrawals.

I've opened this, very quick process as an existing member and CoP works immediately. Have deposited £20 and set up SO for monthly deposits of £20 from 1 October. For the few pennies loss on a low deposit due to the poor interest rate, it's worth a punt on the monthly prize draws plus the big draw on 14th Aug 2026. Interestingly, Northern Ireland residents don't seem to be excluded from the prize draws as they usually are (something to do with lottery laws there). Perhaps an error by Coventry?Bridlington1 said:Coventry BS are launching a Sunny Day Saver (2) at 4.3% (var), £150/mth, unlimited withdrawals.

From section 9.3 (e) of the Coventry Sunny Saver ....
"(e) The purpose of each prize draw is to encourage a small amount of saving each month. If we believe you've not saved in this spirit, we may disqualify you from winning the Additional Prize Draw and/or any of the Monthly Prize Draws."
Seems somewhat bizarre, and, almost unenforceable. Without mind reading abilities, how do they know the 'spirit' that somebody saved in ?12
