Probably still worth opening this for membership (new or continuing). It will likely mature into their 30 day RS follow-on account which can be drawn down to £1.
They have been known to offer members bonds in the past.

Yes, probably a good idea. Its one I'm not a member of, and I do have form for opening accounts with organisations I'm not a member of just to obtain membership!
Just pay the minimum in

A CHAPS payment will cost you £20-£30 (depending on your bank) so probably not that.

Maybe helpful, but if you have Santander Edge current account, CHAPS payment charges are waived.

Called earlier for application forms and envelope.  Will be posted to me before launch of XmasRS  Told application forms are generic, plus I can get details, terms conditions, etc of accounts from website when available. Online access is setup purely online. It may be possible to do transactions with accounts through online access; so not solely for viewing. Understand that they will try using some electronic verification initially, so if ok, no need to send id etc in.

Overall, good first impression.

I totally agree that Bridlington1 is one of the stars on this forum, and if he makes a mistake with information  that he's only passing on from source hes not to blame.

I opened an ONLINE SAVER with the intention  of being able later to open the RS online version and phoned them  about my money  taking its time to show online.

He hasn't made a mistake. 

He passed on information which he was given by what can be considered is a reliable source. This information may or may not have been incorrect - all we know for certain is that a potentially different person from the same source has now given different information. If this latest information is correct, this doesn't mean that the earlier information given to Bridlington1 was incorrect - it is quite conceivable that it was the intention of SBS at the time to release an online RS version but they may since have changed their mind. Equally it is conceivable that one of the forumites has been given incorrect information but that's hardly their fault.

The bottom line is that nobody on this forum should be blamed, or accused of a mistake, for passing on information they have been given by employees of providers and which subsequently turns out to be incorrect.

First of all I appreciate the understanding many have given in this matter.

To throw a further point into the mix, I've phoned Scottish BS again today and they've given me what is probably the most honest answer thus far which is that they don't know whether or not an online version is to be launched. They might be launching one but they might not be, the member of staff I spoke to said she's only heard rumours of a possible online regular saver and hasn't heard anything concrete either way.

I can also corroborate that SBS intended to release the online RS within a week or two of the postal/branch RS release. I was informed they were working on fixing technical problems which is why it wasn’t released at the same time, and which it would appear have been insurmountable as yet.

I spoke earlier today to a member of staff over the phone (11.46am) and asked them if they're launching the online version of their postal/branch Regular Saver.
I was told there are no plans at the moment to do so.

I'm not surprised after the fiasco of difficulties for some of us with the paper form & passbook version. 2.5 weeks later & 4 phone calls to confirm that the SBS had received everything they needed to open their RS, but as of today, still no cheque cashed and no account opened for me, so cheque cancelled and then along came Handley to take over @ £300 a month; opened and funded within 2 days - That'll do nicely & I certainly won't be entertaining a SBS online RS should it ever become available

They also confirmed that they will not accept postal applications for the branch version -

Once it is opened funding can be by post, though.
 Also although they state simply call into your local branch and complete an application form (plus i.d.) they will not open the account there and then. Nor will they accept a deposit. 
 (Applies to non-members. May be different for existing)
