  • YBS First Home eSaver 4.7%A, £500 a month, 2 years

Does anyone know if YBS do any checks on being a first home buyer ?  Or any other non-compliance ?

In the product details there is the following sentence :

'If you're not saving for your first home, we can transfer your money to an online easy access savings account.'

which I take to be a possible severe consequence should anyone not comply.

They did not appear to do so for me.
    Thank you for your reply.
I'll look into this one now. Hopefully, if challenged, it will be early in the term and I could use arguments like 'saving for my first home in Wales' or '...independent of my wife'. The rate offered is nothing special and right at my lower limit.

The brief initial discussion about the Edge saver wasn't too much of a problem, it was the bickering that followed. Anyway, draw a line under it and get back on topic.

Just made a first deposit into the Manchester regular saver, and got a text about an hour later saying they'd received my deposit. Nice touch - saves me from obsessively checking my account so often. So thumbs up for Manchester.

I haven't seen mention of the Scottish Building Society regular saver being made available online yet. To me the hassle of a postal application wasn't worth it, but if I can apply online it'll be worth having. Not having had experience with Scottish before (hadn't even heard of them to be honest) I've no clue as to how long this account will be available for. As with other smaller providers, they might only offer it for a short time then close it when they've got enough funds, and as it's ranked pretty highly on moneyfactscompare they might get more applications than expected.

Anyway, I'm in no rush to open it, as I'd have to siphon off some funds from elsewhere, but once it's available I suspect it might be a case of "grab it before it disappears".

OK, since we're back on topic again, I did ask about a gazillion pages back but never got any response.

Furness BS credit standing orders made on the 1st to my account on the 2nd. Has anyone tried paying on the last day of the month to be credited on 1st of following month, which would, for the first month, technically be 2 payments in the same month?  Did it work?

The Furness website states for bank transfers....

"The payment will normally reach the account no later than the end of the following working day (Monday – Friday excluding Bank Holidays)."

So its unlikely a payment made in from a members current account on the 31st October 2025 (a Friday) would show up on the account until Monday 3rd November 2025, the next working day.  The question and it is probably worth a call or e-mail to Furness BS to ask if they would get their sonic screwdriver out and start interest from the day it came out of your account, which you'd think would be on the statements from their bank.   Some of the building societies will do that.

  • Anyone else unable to make deposits into Manchester BS's regular savers?

I was able to make my initial deposit last month but this month's has bounced.

They've since said a letter sent to my address was returned and that they shan't accept deposits into the account until they've verified a copy of my passport and proof of address, which I sent over a week ago and have heard nothing back since then.
