I note lots of people saying they've opened and funded their new account(s) - when I applied (logged in) I got a message saying they might contact me in the next few days. My wife got the same. As yet no accounts showing in our online accounts.

We've been members since Spring 2024 so this is the first time we've been eligible - is this normal?
Given the number of comments from people who have opened and funded these accounts "speculatively" (including me) I'm guessing that most people would rather NOT be contacted.

Not had any such communication myself.

For anyone who may still have the Principality Learner Earner (original issue) I've just received an email stating the interest on the account will be reducing to 4.9% (from 5.15%) from 19th June, in line with Principality's other variable accounts
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?

Has anyone made a 13th payment to this account? I have the one from last year that started at 7%. The T&Cs are a little ambiguous:
There is a minimum lodgement of £20 required to open this account and the maximum deposit per calendar month is £300, meaning you can save up to a maximum of £3,600 per calendar year.

If you open mid-month, there are 13 months where you can make a "lodgement", meaning the maximum you can save is £3,900. The above doesn't say there is a maximum balance of £3,600 + Interest, but I'd rather not send another £300 next month and then find it eventually bounces.

I funded it yesterday and had a balance of £3.9k showing on my account as of yesterday.

Which account are you referring to, the members month RS or the refer a friend?
I opened the MMRS yesterday and it was opened immediately, I haven't tried the RAF RS as I don't qualify

I had exactly the same message yesterday and opened my account last year too. I did wonder if its because I still have the small saver RS running (matures tomorrow) and it did not like it somehow or they simply do extra checks the first time you open a member one

Perhaps Saffron are now doing manual checks (and have a stock message displayed) having realised the open door they left at the weekend, and are weeding out those who have accounts that they shouldn’t - existing members with the RAF as of Monday, or new members applying for the Members’ Month version as well as the RAF. The RAF forms would also have to be checked manually presumably, to ensure the names given on there were genuine customers of 1 year+. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone had entered Joe Bloggs or similar, hoping that the account would stand as the form had been submitted.

It wasn’t a well thought out roll out - new members were effectively able to grab an 8% account before loyal members, so it isn’t surprising that members would respond by referring each other.

There were no such messages when I first applied for a members’ account in 2023.

This whole refer a friend thing is a bit odd. As far as I can tell, the referred gets a good regular saver, and the referrer gets nothing? Highly unorthodox if so - generally the referrer would get like at least an Amazon gift card or something??

    There is an incentive for referring a friend (https://www.saffronbs.co.uk/membersmonth);

If you introduce a new Member to Saffron (to start their savings story) we'll reward you with a free gift. Its simple, just do the following things in this order:

Step 1: Open our exclusive Members' Month Loyalty Saver account.
Step 2: Provided your account has been successfully opened, we will email you a web link to send to a friend.
Step 3: Ask your friend to use the link to complete the account opening process and refer a friend form (please note their account wont be opened if they do not complete the form).
Step 4: If your friend’s account has been successfully opened we will send you a £15 book token

Book token is extremely limiting considering they have previously had activities where you got a £10 Amazon voucher, and most recently a £30 Virtual Incentive where they sent the credit that you could exchange for a gift card of your choosing (included Amazon, but also TK Maxx, some dining options, Google PlayStore.)

Yet to receive such an email having opened via maturity process, so those with 2024 accounts yet to mature who might wish to take up the book token offer should perhaps have funds paid away on maturity and then start a fresh application for the 2025 version.
