I think your best bet is waiting till you know whats going to be in any flat you rent then hit somewhere like Ikea (sorry!!) and get a basic starter kit for example if there is no kitchen stuff.

My wee brother did this when he got bought his flat and got everything there for a 2 bed flat for about £1000 except the sofa, washing machine, fridge and TV. It is all basic stuff except his mattress which was a fair chunk of that 1k!! When I kitted out my 1st flat I inherited all sorts of missmatched furniture that relatives did not want or need anymore which meant I could save up and replace stuff that I wanted over time (though I still have some of the randoms like my ancient sofa :rotfl: ). As I got the keys the day before my birthday I got loads of things like plates and cutlery for my birthday!

I would seriously wait till you know what you'll need as many flats to rent will have assorted furniture and basic stuff in it already. Oh and do use freecyle even if its for a make do TV or sofa for a few months till you save up or till its saletime and you can get what you want 1/2 price! You can always put stuff back on freecycle again a few months later! Microwaves, smallish TVs and random furniture are always on my local freecycle. I've also bought the odd thing like a side table from a local charity shop that has furniture.

    Good luck!

Well my loan payment has come out. But it feels really weird not paying anything more to it! :undecided

I keep thinking, if I just paid an extra £130 I'd be below £9k!

But if I want the flat I have to be strict. :D

Can't remember if I said already but I hope to have 'savings' of about £2,000 by the end of this month!

Need to pull my finger out and do more MB'ing though!

SS have you thought about stuff like bedding, duvets and towels? Worth paying more (ie in the sales lol) for a cosy duvet. You can get 'four season' ones, basically a winterweight and summerweight one buttoned together. Manky bedding is a known passionkiller...;)

Why would I need bedding in the kitchen, front room and shower?;)

I have thought about it but I can't afford that and a 42" telly so it will have to wait! :p

My only suggestion is budget as much as you can on a decent bed ;) - it was the main thing I forked out for when I got my flat and honestly you won't regret it. Also ask your folks/friends if they have any old plates, cutlery, bedding, furniture they want to get rid of - I was lucky enough to get a load of stuff off my family & friends before even having to buy anything including a big widescreen TV!

So what if things mis-match, once you get a bit of cash you can buy yourself new stuff to replace if you're that bothered. As long as you keep it pretty clean us ladies won't mind... :p
