Update on heater
all four elements were changed as all not working properly
new insulation board fitted
now the heater is working perfectly and should last for many more years
I dealt with a guy for the parts who was very knowledgeable and helpful … he told me exactly what was wrong and he was correct
4 elements £46
thermostat £65
insulation panel £80
plus labour , which was reasonable as I got a different electrician out and he was very helpful7 -
...great result....and thanks for the update!!

I’m still going to replace them but gives me a bit breathing space to save up
I recently lost my job after 11 years so was not in the position to just get new ones now unfortunately
but it might help others in the same situation, parts can be purchased for a reasonable price0 -
Thanks for coming back, far too many time wasters just 'ring the bell and run away' which is not only very discourteous but means we'll never know whether the advice given was correct and appropriate for the individual concerned. It's debatable whether all four elements really needed to be replaced, at most only one had failed; similar to old tungsten lightbulbs, basically they either work or they don't, with not much in between. But as the elements are cheap and call-outs are expensive, it was probably worth it for peace of mind. Many organisations replaced all their tubes and lightbulbs at the same time at around 80% of their rated life rather than waiting for individual ones to fail.As it's a 'low heat retention box of bricks', just remember to turn down the heat output control before going to bed and up a bit later in the day if it gets chilly.Hope the New Year brings a New Job, just keep trying !1

at the cost of maybe having a issue with another one , it made sense to change all 4 while bricks were out and was all done with in a hour , so costs over all were good for me2
