I've prepped the veg and cooked up the pigs in blankets. The rest can wait til tomorrow. A chilled day otherwise, watching films and reading. DH got let out early so that was nice too.
I hope everyone on here has a lovely Christmas"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee4 -

Happy Boxing Day!
I hope everyone had a lovely day yesterday whatever you were doing.
We had a good day. I have a nice pile of books to read and some gift cards for the big river site so I'm very happy. The kids and DH were spoilt too.
I had a terrible night's sleep on Christmas eve, but last night went to bed at 8.30pm and mostly slept through til around 5.30am this morning. It's the best night's sleep I've had in months and I feel like a different person for it!
I got up and popped the gammon in the oven for lunchtime and pottered around a bit until everyone else surfaced. We're off to visit family this morning, then will be chilling this afternoon.
Have a good day everyone"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee8 -

Glad Christmas day went well.
Perhaps you need a version of the 1 in 1 out rule. In my case that should probably be more like 1 in 10 out - but whatever the number if it is more than one - it is progress. Before Xmas and possibly birthdays I managed to get the kids each time to let go of at least half a bin bag's worth of stuff and said that gifts would not be forthcoming unless they had decluttered and the room was hoovered (by them). It worked.
On the finding all the bits thing - I know you hate waste - but sometimes it is kinder to yourself to just bin it - or label it as for crafters - pieces missing - as crafters often like beads, jigsaw pieces etc.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Hope you had a lovely Christmas, mine was nice and quiet with family.
When you get chance can you explain how payment a day works, is it as simple as it sounds and you make a payment a day towards your debt?
Thanks lovely2 -

I do ask them to sort out stuff, half the time it's getting it past DH that's the problem. He wants to sell it all. To be fair, they have decent savings because of selling stuff so it's worth it.
It's decent stuff, so I can't bin it, it's things like putting sets together etc. I have finally got my head around throwing away some of the tat though which helps. They don't tend to get much in the way of stuff with little bits any more, so if I can bring myself to do it, then it should hopefully improve in the future. I just need to start as even a few minutes a week would add up, and I'd achieve more than if I do nothing!
Good idea about putting bundles together for crafters though, thank you"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee3 -

The PAD is exactly that! Every day I log in to check all my bank accounts. While I'm in my main account I send a payment to my debt and a payment to my savings. For the savings I send £1 plus any change in my account, rounding down to the nearest £1. (I don't include the odd change in my totals as it's too much maths for me) The second payment currently goes to my 0% credit card, and that will be £1, plus any extras that I might have made from surveys, sales etc.
I used to send the whole thing to one place, but last year decided to send half to savings to try and bump those up a bit as well.
Hope that helps"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee4
