I've been to the car boot this morning to get my steps in, and don't plan on doing a lot else today, just potter around. I didn't sleep well last night which is annoying."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". It never rains but it pours! My car went into the garage for diagnostics this week, and it would cost around £2.5k to fix it, but with a warning that the fault could possibly have caused damage to another part that could potentially fail over the next few weeks/months. It's due MOT in October, and we need to be thinking about replacing the chain over the next year or so which is another fairly hefty expense, so we've decided it's not worth spending the money, as the bill would be the same as the car is worth. I'd also then be constantly worrying about whether the other part is about to fail. It's a 17 year old car and I've had it for 7 years without it causing me any problems, so it's a shame, but it's probably had its day.
A new (to me) car was not on my plan! There's no point in me spending a fortune on a car as I don't do huge mileage, but equally I don't want an old banger that will cause me more problems. I've tended to go for something about 10 years old but even they are a lot more expensive than they used to be! I haven't got enough in savings so I'll probably need to borrow something, which is frustrating, but at least I should be able to minimise that. I was browsing last night, and nothing was really taking my fancy, so I'm not going to rush it. Funnily enough, when I did all my bank checks this morning, several accounts suddenly had messages about offering me a loan. I'm sure our phones listen to us!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee6 -

Yes, they do. They paid out in the US rather than go to court on exactly that issue!
Lots to think about re cars...If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them
