Has anyone already tried that??

I really feel that if Instagram have a problem with tagging, they should discuss it with the companies not just ban entrants from following the instructions in the comps.....1

I appreciate others' thoughts on this! thanks0

It does not matter if they know you do competitions, tagging them is still against Instagram's terms and conditions.EB1234 said:Exactly the same has happened to me, I've had a ban from Instagram for taking part in all of the 12 days of Christmas competitions that require you to tag someone. I've tagged 2 people - my sister and my step Dad who both know i do the competitions.
You have no right to use any of Meta's products or services, the legal position is that you have no rights to use their site, app or enter the competitions via their platform.EB1234 said:I'm on a really low income and if I forfeit any prizes as a result it will have a huge impact, I'm mostly entering competitions for food due to the cost of living crisis. I'm thinking of contacting CAB to see what the legal position is because it seems unfair that I'm excluded from the competitions especially as most of them have to be entered that day.
The problem is that you keep breaching their terms and conditions, if you stop breaching their terms and conditions then they will stop blocking you.EB1234 said:I've sent Instagram 7 messages, reported the problem multiple times and had no reply.
The legal position is that they can ban you if they want and you have no right to use or access their site.EB1234 said:I wonder what the legal position is on this.
If you are banned from Instagram then you are banned from Instagram. It is a few people, out of billions, they are highly unlikely to even respond, let alone change their terms and conditions to allow something they specifically do not want to happen.EB1234 said:Ie if we're all banned, the competitions are every day so we're banned from every single companies' advent competition every single day that the ban lasts. And the 12 days comps are annually so only once a year........
And it's all of us not just 1 person.
You can do that, but it does not give you a right to enter via that route.EB1234 said:I'm messaging the companies now on all the comps I want to enter, telling them I can't tag and telling them about this.
How would it have been resolved? You were banned because you breached Meta's terms and conditions, their reply would be that you were banned because you breached their terms and conditions. The resolution you seem to want is that you do not get banned for breaking their terms and conditions, that will not happen.EB1234 said:If instagram had replied it could have been resolved.
It will not help and will just waste everyone's time.EB1234 said:I don't know if it will help or not but I'm thinking of phoning CAB's consumer helpline and asking them
Some people will have wasted Citizen's Advice's time yes.EB1234 said:Has anyone already tried that??
They are banning users for breaching the terms and conditions, just as they would with anyone following "instructions" which meant that the users breached the terms and conditions.EB1234 said:I really feel that if Instagram have a problem with tagging, they should discuss it with the companies not just ban entrants from following the instructions in the comps.....
They are also starting to deal with the companies which ask users to tag people as part of a competition entry, but that still does not absolve users of their breaches.2 -
But it's not me who is breaching their ts and cs, it's the companies who are all asking people to repeatedly tag who are breaching the ts and cs0

They should not be penalising the people following the instructions of the companies running the competitions, they should be taking it up with the companies asking people to do this.0

And when I say the companies, many of them are mainstream well known companies: virgin red, joules, pizza express, magazines, majestic wine warehouse, fatface, and many more. So it's the companies asking people to tag to enter their giveaways who the issue should be raised with, not the entrants who want to join in.

It is not currently against the terms and conditions for companies to ask users to do it, it is against the guidelines which are somewhat different. It will be against the terms and conditions at some point next year, exactly when is still TBC.EB1234 said:it's the companies who are all asking people to repeatedly tag who are breaching the ts and cs
They are taking it up with the companies, they will be banned from running those kind of promotions at some point next year. However it is already against the terms and conditions for users to tag others in posts for marketing/promotional purposes, which competitions fall under. They are penalising people for breaking their terms and conditions, if you do not breach the terms and conditions you will not be penalised.EB1234 said:They should not be penalising the people following the instructions of the companies running the competitions, they should be taking it up with the companies asking people to do this.
It is very simple. The companies are not breaching the terms and conditions, the users are. Those who breach the terms and conditions are penalised, which in this case is the users.EB1234 said:And when I say the companies, many of them are mainstream well known companies: virgin red, joules, pizza express, magazines, majestic wine warehouse, fatface, and many more. I've been wondering this too.cooldude255220 said:I'm wondering whether there should be a sub-board for social media comps, given how few us us can enter the many IG comps being posted on the main board!
I think it would be really useful, both to those who are social media compers and those who are not.
Also think that it may be a good idea to have a separate Social Media Advents sub as well.2 -

Can't you just ignore those with IG in the title?
