Instagram bans

I really feel that if Instagram have a problem with tagging, they should discuss it with the companies not just ban entrants from following the instructions in the comps.....

It does not matter if they know you do competitions, tagging them is still against Instagram's terms and conditions.

You have no right to use any of Meta's products or services, the legal position is that you have no rights to use their site, app or enter the competitions via their platform.

The problem is that you keep breaching their terms and conditions, if you stop breaching their terms and conditions then they will stop blocking you.

And it's all of us not just 1 person. 

If you are banned from Instagram then you are banned from Instagram. It is a few people, out of billions, they are highly unlikely to even respond, let alone change their terms and conditions to allow something they specifically do not want to happen.

You can do that, but it does not give you a right to enter via that route.

How would it have been resolved? You were banned because you breached Meta's terms and conditions, their reply would be that you were banned because you breached their terms and conditions. The resolution you seem to want is that you do not get banned for breaking their terms and conditions, that will not happen.

They are banning users for breaching the terms and conditions, just as they would with anyone following "instructions" which meant that the users breached the terms and conditions. 

They are also starting to deal with the companies which ask users to tag people as part of a competition entry, but that still does not absolve users of their breaches.

But it's not me who is breaching their ts and cs, it's the companies who are all asking people to repeatedly tag who are breaching the ts and cs

They should not be penalising the people following the instructions of the companies running the competitions, they should be taking it up with the companies asking people to do this.

And when I say the companies, many of them are mainstream well known companies: virgin red, joules, pizza express, magazines, majestic wine warehouse, fatface, and many more. So it's the companies asking people to tag to enter their giveaways who the issue should be raised with, not the entrants who want to join in.

It is not currently against the terms and conditions for companies to ask users to do it, it is against the guidelines which are somewhat different. It will be against the terms and conditions at some point next year, exactly when is still TBC.

They are taking it up with the companies, they will be banned from running those kind of promotions at some point next year. However it is already against the terms and conditions for users to tag others in posts for marketing/promotional purposes, which competitions fall under. They are penalising people for breaking their terms and conditions, if you do not breach the terms and conditions you will not be penalised.

It is very simple. The companies are not breaching the terms and conditions, the users are. Those who breach the terms and conditions are penalised, which in this case is the users.

I've been wondering this too.

I think it would be really useful, both to those who are social media compers and those who are not.

Also think that it may be a good idea to have a separate Social Media Advents sub as well.
