I've just managed to bag a bungalow after a LOT of refused offers, and losing out to first time buyers.. I met the neighbours today and they told me they have loud gatheringS in an open hut , on their patio, with a huge tv, all year round as they have heaters in it.. I haven't moved in yet, but I'm freaking out! I'm really ill and housebound, and in need of peace and quiet.. Is there any way of shilding myself from the noise? their fence is very low, so I asked them if i could put a fence erxtension on it and they agreed, but i dont really know how bad the noise will be.
Many thanks to all who contribute on MSE

have you actually bought the place yet?0

Do not move in. You are already freaking out and they have warned you they are not quiet. You can't know who will move in after you, but you do know who you are moving in next to.6

Have you checked with the seller and other neighbours to see how loud it really is? The seller may well down play it (What reason have they given for moving?) but other neighbours might be more upfront,Have to be honest though they’ve done you a favour in warning you because they clearly don’t want someone moving in who going to be complaining.
I wouldn’t be able to tolerate the noise and I don’t have any health conditions like you do.If the bungalow is cheaper than the other ones you’ve gone for, it’ll be cheap for a reason. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.6 -
the seller was elderly, and died. Many thanks to all who contribute on MSE0

If you are really set on it you could think about wearing noise-cancelling headphones. And fit acoustic or triple-glazed windows. But new windows would be expensive and perhaps would only reduce, rather than completely cut out, the noise. There is also such a thing as acoustic fencing, and planting thick bushes and trees would also baffle the noise somewhat.
But how about widening your search to non-bungalows with one straight staircase, so you could fit a stairlift? (Apologies if I'm assuming wrongly or too much about why you need a bungalow.)3
