The guarantee for most phones is not from the airtime company... but from the manufacturers like Motorola and Sony etc..
This is not true either. Your contract, that is as in the generic use of the word not as in PAYG/contract is with the company that you purchase your phone from. So if you go in to Carphonewarehouse and buy a phone, your guarantee is with them.
Their contract (CPW) is with their supplier e.g. Nokia, SE etc.
Again regardless of what any retailer says, the company that took your money for the product/service is the one liable for any warranty/back up service.0 -

It depends on the phone, unless I've missed it, I haven't seen mention of which phone it is, you have?0 -

the guarantee is not supplied by the retailer, it is supplied by the manufacturer & you will find that a FREE handset is a loophole where the retailer within its lawful rights can forward you to the handset maunfacturer, they gave it to you FREE as a gift for choosing them to introduce/provide you a airtime service, retailer IS within its rights to direct to manufacturer - which is best thing to do anyhow ( see below )
( same applies as well with FREE broadband - even ISPA tell you you cant come to them until 3 months of a dispute
Orange because you get the service free as part of a mobile contract
Talk Talk because you get the service free as part of landline contract )
if Orange/Voda/3/T-mobile/o2 branding is slowing down/crashing/removing functions from your phone then you can contest the retailer per Sale of Goods Act the mobile is not fit for its purpose ( ie...the way Nokia intended the software )...I'd advise you get trading standards involved if they refuse.
A subsidised handset should be networked locked but at no point should you be denied by retailer/network the official NOKIA manufacturer software PROVEN to work to a more superior standard than a networks DOCTORED software, these software network " enchancements " to handsets should be optional - be able to turn off and have the FULL working phone as the manufacturer indended....the Telco's are abusing thier power & most people just accept it & not fight it
PHONE PROBLEMS - phone direct to manufacturer if you are in warrenty and tell them you want it done by the maunfacturers OFFICIAL inhouse repair protocol, why ?
1) usually it will take less time to return to you ( going direct )
2) the networks outsource repair work to 3rd party companies AUTHORISED by the network not always the manufacturer ( thus the quality of repair will usually be less than the manufacturers, considering repair centre will deal with many makes not just your specific manufacturer )
3) 3rd party companies can log whatever they want against your IMEI number on your manufacturers database if they have the access/needs to do so ( thus report anything they want that could be absolute lies & you have no proof against the manufactrer & you are stuck with a faulty handset with manufacturer refusing to help you )
4) using the OFFICIAL manufacturer in-house repair is ALWAYS better & saves manufacturer a service fee from the REPAIRER,( they'd pefer you went direct to them for better service, quality control & reduced servicing costs
)SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -

Follow the debranding guide on hotdealsuk. I did it yesterday for a W810i and it took less than 10 minutes to debrand the phone. They have even uploaded all the required files to rapidshare and provided links to the flashin software.

the guarantee is not supplied by the retailer, it is supplied by the manufacturer
No you are wrong, your contract and warranty are the responsibility of the retailer. The retailer's warranty is with the manufacturer or wholesaler they purchase from.
The sale of goods act covers this, you can read a bit about it from Trading Standards, passages to take notice of are,
"What is a contract?
It is a legally binding agreement between 2 parties with the exchange of money or something of value for goods. Lots of contracts can be verbal and very few actually need to be in writing. Verbal contracts are binding but less easy to prove."
"As described
This means goods should correspond with any description applied to them – this could be verbally, on a sign, or packaging, or an advert.
It is important to remember these rights exist automatically, between you and the trader. The trader should accept liability for any problems under the contract.
Don’t be fobbed off by a trader who tells you to take it up with the manufacturer.
Only when you buy goods directly from the manufacturer is your contract with them and the same rights as above will apply."

Now I've been an area manager in manufacturing, distribution & retail for 10 years. Believe me when I tell you your guarantee is with the retailer i.e. the company that took your money, unless as mentioned above, you purchased directly from the manufacturer.0 -

if you flash w810i software to another phone which isnt a w810i, you will brick it. you can convert a k750i > w800i or a k800 > k810i or a k610i/v630 > w660i (with a few slight probs)0
