Hi....

Recently unlocked SE K610i and since then the screen backlight has not been working properly - it does not light up immediately, usually 10-15seconds, which is annoying especially I can't see who is calling!

Was it caused by the unlocking? Or not? Can it be fixed please?

thanks!

Permanently unlocked, I believe. any SIM card works? Not sure what patch unlocked means.

    thanks

patch unlocking is where the unlocker applies a patch to the main part of the phones software (and you lose this when you upgrade the software on the phone) and permanant unlocks are where the unlocker reconfigures the gdfs (where the locks are stored) and you dont lose the unlock when you upgrade the software.

my thoughts are that the the software has been slightly corrupted during the unlock process. take it back to where you got it unlocked and see what they say

the shop offered to upgrade the software for £10. The guy said the backlight problem has nothing to do with the unlocking but a bug in the software (which is why it's an upgrade, not re-installing the same software??). Don't suppose I can prove that the unlocking caused the software to corrupt?

Is it possible to upgrade the software myself?

Out of curiosity, why would a phone be patch unlocked instead of permanently unlocked?

    Many thanks.

its free if you have SETool3 or any other SE service equipment (but it usually costs a lot to buy the service software).

it is possible to upgrade the software (for free), but if the phone was patch unlocked, you will lose the unlock.

i've never heard of a bug like this on the k610i. the only other possibility is that the phone has been slightly liquid damaged

The phone hasn't been dropped in liquid or anything like that...

Can the phone tell me if it's patch unlocked or do I need to ask the shop?

Could you also tell me how I might upgrade the software myself for free please?

    Many thanks
  • Have you not just got the setting adjusted for battery saving!

you will need to ask the shop what unlock they did (£10+ is normally a full unlock, below £10 will most likely be a patch).

http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=16148. you can use the cable that came with the phone

No, have had the phone for 12mths and not changed anything. Noticed the problem after unlocking.

Many thanks gaming_guy, will have a read of the website.

gaming_guy, It is my phone that Lychee is trying to help get fixed (i'm a friend of Lychee's).

many thanks for your help so far, you've been great :)

I've followed the instructions from the thread you posted. The problem is still here sadly.... and now it seems my phone will only work with my 3 Sim card (not my virgin who i am with now).

I'm hoping it's a straightforward error on my part, perhaps i chose the wrong file to install? well, here's the file names i put on my phone, hopefully you can advise further what i've done wrong?

    main firmware: k610_r1kg001_main_generic_th_red52.mbn
    file system: k610_cxc1250376_europe_2_r1kg001_red52_fs_enc.bin

then i went back on & customised it to CDA102497/61 (this should be:EUROPE_2 Generic Trade UK United Kingdom)

i could have a guess at what i might need to do - perhaps find a Virgin main firmware & then use: CDA102497/77 EUROPE_2 Virgin United Kingdom (this particular one wasn't available to choose from the list :()

Or perhaps something else, i shan't speculate. Hopefully you can help me out of this pickle. Thanks
