I am wating for the day when ICE vehicles pay for the pollution and environmental damage they cause.Arunmor said:I'm just waiting for the day to come when EV drivers pay their fair share for using the roads, instead of moaning they can't get their KWs for 7p!
Personally, I am looking forward to the ban on new ICE vehicles and more clean air zones and ULEZ deployments.Arunmor said:Personally I'll stick to ICE.1 -
If only all Nickel mining in Indonesia was performed in an environmentally and socially acceptable manner. Some poor underpaid worker, exposed to far from less satisfactory working conditions. Is risking their life for that supercar you show off to you friends.MattMattMattUK said:

Funnily enough French nuclear plants are a much hated drain on the public purse. They turned out to be extremely expensive, and French customers are often in the position of subsidising them instead of being able to buy cheaper energy from other sources.MattMattMattUK said:
France built the nuclear power plants from taxpayer funds, they took the view that long term investment was worth it, our government did not.ThorOdinson said:XRS200 said:Is electricity cheaper in France?EDF is nationalised and the government makes sure they keep the price low. In fact they just had a price cut.
The reason that the French can afford state built, owned and operated nuclear power is because they pay far higher taxes than we do in the UK, it is also the reason for better healthcare, education, pensions, roads, policing etc. In the UK 55% of households receive more in cash benefits than they pay in taxes, more than 95% of people are a lifetime burden on the state. We have the largest tax free allowance in the EU, we have the lower starting rates of taxation. In the UK the bottom and middle third of earners have the lowest effective rate of income taxation in the EU, the top third have the fifth highest. The reality is that taxes are too low in the UK for everyone, but especially the bottom and middle third of earners, that is why we cannot have nice things, that is why we cannot afford to invest, that is why we have a huge debt and deficit.ThorOdinson said:We get absolutely fleeced in this country.
Now they are reaching end of life as well, so need expensive maintenance, monitoring, and eventual replacement.
The recent price drop is due to generators outside France offering lower prices. They will have a new link to Ireland soon too, lots of cheap wind power coming in.
The only reason to keep building nuclear is to provide material for weapons, ensuring that France has an independent nuclear arsenal for the foreseeable future.0 -
Many don't agree. Cars expensive, poor range which is also heavily affected by weather and temperature, rubbish charging infrastructure.

Expensive? We got 60% off on ours. Quite a lot cheaper than the equivalent petrol.
3,000 miles in three months? We did more in the Zoe (which everyone loves to remind us is a city car) over the summer - 450/600/700 mile weekends away. No bother.
Tips:
1. Get a car like the Zoe that supports full three-phase 22kW AC charging. It opens up a whole world of practical charging alternatives at half the price of DC.
2. Download the Tesla app - just cheaper and better.
3. Understand what a charging curve is and how to use it. It's really not rocket science and you will literally halve the time you spend plugged into the wall on long journeys.3 -
More than happy to pay VED from next year.Arunmor said:I'm just waiting for the day to come when EV drivers pay their fair share for using the roads, instead of moaning they can't get their KWs for 7p!
Personally I'll stick to ICE.
We all use the roads so should pay.
I think the most upset will be all the ICE that have been paying £30 a year & will not have to pay the same as everyone else.
Still get my kWh for 7p. 😍
Wonder what 30-10 will bring in terms of a fuel duty rise?Life in the slow lane2 -
Why do you think those ICE drivers paying £30 a year will have their tax increased? Not read that anywhere.born_again said:

Judging by the way the majority of EV's are driven. The increased cost of tyre wear is going to come back to bite many hard.born_again said:

Some localised pollution which can and should be countered with modern processes vs vast global pollution that is distrpting the climate and contributing to huge environmental issues, the trade off is one worth making, especially as countries could easily mine without local pollution.Hoenir said:

Puerile comment and a straw man on top, absolutely nothing to do with showing off, or having a supercar, which EVs are not, nor do I even have yet, although I will be buying one second hand next year. Mostly to do with two things, dramatically reduced pollution and running cost.Hoenir said:

And you could just as easily choose an EV which uses LFP chemistry (no Nickel) if Nickel mining really is a genuine concern. Because, of course, fossil fuel production, distribution and use has absolutely no global impact whatsoever...1
