Happy New Year!!! It's bound to be better now :)
  • with the BT thing, you may be in a contract but it should cost £70 to get out of that contract - I had to do the same thing when I moved.

Phone them to check the cancellation fee, if its still this, then arrange to terminate the contract. Cancel this months dd and put the money aside. BT will then send you a final bill, pay this months dd money to that, then in a couple of weeks you'll get a red bill which should co-inside with the payment due next month, then phone them to say you'll pay the rest the following week.

So from March you could have an extra £30 per month!

    Hope this makes sense :)

    Grocery challenge: £230 / £230 left
  • Thanks bananaskins, so just go back to someone else then? I was with talk talk before and they were coming in a bit cheaper. I would like to get one of those all in one packages, tv, internet, phone etc but I am on a tiny telephone exchange and no one can offer me a total package, so will have to sit down and work out the cheapest way for me to get all these things.
  • Hello in the first day of 2008 everyone!!!

Well, I did my 1st money saving grocery shop today - having emptied the cupboards and seeing them bare I took myself of to see Mr Tesco - Lidl and Aldi were shut and probably spent too much fuel on finding that out but hey ho!

I have been a very naughty girl over the last few years you know - buying things without even considering trying other brands - so today I had a Value day - 8p on a jelly!!!! I was spending 38p on one little pot!! So i went out to the recycling bin and got out the yoghurt pots and made individual jellies out of 8p!!! I did give them a good wash first, no good saving all that money just to spend it on parking fees at the hospital salmonella ward eh?

I bought frozen mince beef so I can only cook a bit at a time instead of cooking a lump just cos its there.

I bought a joint of ham £4 to boil myself, that will do a ham dinner, ham baguettes for tea the next night (44p for 2 x part cooked ones) and will do sandwiches for my 3 days at college. For me to do that from the deli (or tidy packet ham) would cost me at least £8

I throw a lot of bread out (well I give it to the birds), so I bought a small loaf and some of those part baked bread thingies, so use as and when.

Biscuits, there were loads half price but I have told the kids that the ones I have got will not be replaced until next week. From now on they will have a main meal in school, something when they get in followed by jelly + ice cream, an apple, tin of peaches whatever, so they'd best eat it all cos snacks are going to be at a minimum.

I bought value spaghetti and beans etc gotta be worth a go at that price eh?

I spent £49 pounds and that should last me 2 weeks minimum but in that I got 24 washes in laundry powder (which will be be at least a months worth), lots of 3 for 2 offers (so an extra week there), 6 loo rolls (3 weeks worth, having) large dog food half price (one extra week) and things like that, so although I went £9 over my fortnightly budget, it was on things that were bulk buys that I wont have to buy in week 3, and thus hopefully making week 3 cheaper! - Does that make sense.

I felt VERY empowered with that list in my hand and was very pleased with myself with my bargains like the jelly lol Simple things eh?

Next time I will Lidl and Tesco cos they are next to each other so I wont be spending petrol going miles to all the supermarkets.

I am now going to settle down to Quidco and get my head round that, keren gave me some tips, so away to go.

  • Dont know the name of the package but its ony 6 months old so am stuck with that for a bit

I don't know if you have done this already, but even if you are mid-contract if you phone SKY they will reduce your package to the minimum. Could you look into getting the tv/broadband/phone for £18 package? Have a look at the Sky website for more info.

Well done for everything you have done over the last couple of days

Thanks FMOW, yes I have looked into an all in one package but I am on a tiny telephone exchange and no one can offer one at the moment. Will SKY reduce me whilst still in my first year?
