    V3 is out now.
My area both G&E unit prices are lower SC are the same for both.
    Thanks
Yes same for North West region (for the Octopus 15 month fix)
Standing charges same for v3 and v2 (for both electricity and gas)
Gas unit charge lower for v3 (5.474p vs 5.623p per unit)
Electricity unit charge lower for v3 (24.834p vs 25.198p per unit)
Going by EDF 12 month Electricity fix rates for North West region, Octo v4 may come sooner than later

    Gas supply

    Unit rate

    5.40p per kWh

    Standing charge

    31.59p per day

    (All rates inc. VAT)

    Electricity supply

    Unit rate

    22.59p per kWh

    Standing charge

    51.18p per day

You've forgotten the EDF exit fees, £50 per fuel.

EDF exit fees, £25 per fuel.

Electricity usage of 2700 EDF  £796.60 per year, Octopus v3 - £852.95 ( North West region) + Topcashback or refer a friend incentives available for switching to EDF

Was it not you some years ago who said "this is MSE name of the game is cheapest tariff"

  • i've just asked octopus if i can remain on my current tracker till end of contract V3 tracker (mid nov) they said yes and lock me in this deal on the gas, i do want to go on agile as the new tracker is a LOT more than the new tracker for electric so maybe jump on agile in nov
i'm going to be losing almost 7 weeks of cheaper gas on my current tracker deal but with winter ahead of us i know i'm going to be given a hike on the gas so safegaurd  myself for any hikes for 15mths

Quite possibly, and that's still the objective provided that product quality and customer service are acceptable.  Unfortunately, standards fell when dozens of companies went bust, so the absolute cheapest may not always be the best if there'd be unacceptable hassle.
Similarly, before the energy crisis you could be reasonably confident of finding a fixed deal that would turn out being close to the least you'd have to pay for the next year or two.  The price cap was academic then because it was way above the fixes.
However, as I noted recently, the future is much more uncertain now, Brits are being advised to leave Lebanon etc.  (I mentioned this the other day and was criticised, not by you !)  There might be a big hike in the SVT in a year's time, so I value the certainty of the three extra months on my Octopus fix (lasts through to Christmas Day 2025) more than EDF's 12 months. I also found EDF's customer service dire whereas Octopus is brilliant.

Thanks for posting. I changed on Monday and got version2. Just changed to V3 and like you, G&E unit prices slightly lower and SC same for both. Every little helps.

Another benefit of keeping switching is it moves the end date further into winter 25 and that might be handy.
    Let's Be Careful Out There
  • After 2 years on Tracker, I've moved my gas over to 'Octopus 15 month fixed September 2024 v3' today.

With the unstable situation in the Middle East, I've decided that a degree of certainty, for my heating costs over the coming winter, trumps any short term benefit by remaining on Tracker.

Looking at the latest wholesale gas prices, I think fixed September v3 may have a very short shelf life.

Up sharply today, but the lower fixes that have appeared in recent days reflect a significant decline in wholesale prices from their highs in August which have come despite the various tense situations in different parts of the world. I wouldn't even like to guess where we are going next.

well ive also took the plunge and took the 15mth fix for gas only and went on agile
going to be a bit gutted losing my tracker V3 inc cheaper SC on electric but it would have came to an end in nov anyway and at 5.52p for gas locked in for 15mts with no exit fee i had little choice
now im on agile from thurs i will watch my usage times
also its working out aprox extra £150 for gas, but a few weeks ago i have got the loft insulated there was none in
so i hope the insulation will be less gas i use which will cover the gas price increase ive been hit with

Insulation will make a huge difference but you almost certainly will need to rebalance either using lockshield or trvs to reduce the heat output upstairs.
  • 2hrs before the changeover from 4.48pkw gas to 5.52 the heating is on getting the last of the cheap gas
