Mine was with Manchester PoliceCurrent Greater Manchester advice upon receipt of a speeding allegation:
"You need to complete the appropriate sections of the notice and return it to the address shown on the form within 28 days."

The cameras also capture, but disregard, the 20 seconds prior to an aspect change, even though the camera will flash. This is why many motorists reported being flashed, but then not receiving any prosecutions in the post.
The cameras also test their flasher module every 24-48 hours, usually around 3am, which has also probably freaked out its fair share of innocent motorists too!
My reason for knowing this is I designed the LED signals on the M62 ATM project and spent 2 years doing all the compatibility testing with the camera systems (which we do NOT manufacture before anyone lynches me)!
To clarify, I'm not saying one individual sign changed from 60>50>60, I'm stating that they were all at 60 with little traffic then one was 50 then the next 60. Just no need for the drop other than to trap people.
The clue is in the phrase "variable speed limit" - it can change at a moment's notice.
I'd suggest that if you know you are on a section of motorway that is subject to a varialble speed limit, then relying on some sort of cruise control is asking for trouble - particularly if it's from your satnav. How would your satnav know about instantaneous speed limit changes?
** Although there is a delay between a change being notified and it being enforcedNot sure what all the excitement about cruise control is???When I get up to speed if the road is clear enough I will set my cruise control to 1 mile under the limit as per satnav which is more reliable than speedo. This allows me to keep my eyes on the road more without keep checking dash. I do NOT rely on the cruise control to change speed or read signs, it's there to keep me at the speed I set. Once I see the next sign had reduced the speed to 50 I started to make plans to move over and slow down. I did slow down to lo4 50's but before I got to 50 the next sign was back up to 60 so I increased speed again. This was probably within the space of 30 seconds and somewhere within this time I got snapped. I'm not sure if people are genuinely struggling to understand or just being awkward but I hope this clears things up.1 -
Even with indisputable evidence no shortage of people look for a get out these days. Some of the excuses are as good as some as the insurance claim quotes Jasper Carrott has told at his shows over the years.
A couple of my favourites
"The accident happened because I had one eye on the lorry in front, one eye on the pedestrian and the other on the car behind."
"Going to work at 7am this morning I drove out of my drive straight into a bus. The bus was 5 minutes early.."

You must slow down to a lower limit before you reach the sign, and never speed up to a higher limit before you reach the sign either.(A nice little money earner is to position a speed trap where a road goes from 30 to NSL and catch hundreds of drivers accelerating to 60 before they reach the sign, so they are doing 40+ whilst still well inside the 30 limit, and going the other way, entering the 30 limit above 30 and then slowing down inside the 30 limit.)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Same as any other speed limit sign.
You're driving through a 30mph limit. A chunk further down the road, you see an NSL sign.
Do you immediately accelerate? Or do you wait until you pass that NSL sign?1
