Raisin - Download transactions - Help needed, bit of a techie question

Afternoon all
Has anyone here tried downloading their transaction list from Raisin?
It seems to just download into one mass of data, not in columns (excel), in a .csv (comma delimited) file. (Whatever that means? )
Is there an easy (shortcut) way to split it out into proper columns from the wall of text, so that I can apply filters/sort?
Each line just has lots of ; in it, same as the headings. All the text is lumped in column A, and is shown like this...
Anyone? I'm pretty good with excel usually, but this has me flummoxed.
TIA

How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.52% of current retirement "pot" (as at end October 2024)

That looks like it is using semicolons to separate the columns, not commas.
You can use the Text Import Wizard in Excel:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/office/text-import-wizard-c5b02af6-fda1-4440-899f-f78bafe41857
And set ";" as the delimiter. Let us know!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Credit Cards and Budgeting & Bank Accounts boards. you should be able to import this string as text format into Excel or similar spreadsheet, with the semicolon ; being the delimiter

Wow, thanks for that.
Partial success!! It hasn't done a few of the rows, though.
These seem to be where the data has, under account holder , for example...
; "xxxxMYNAME";
rather than
;HOIST;
So it's not recognising those lines that have " in them as well as ;
Any ideas?How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.52% of current retirement "pot" (as at end October 2024)0 -
Can you try setting the text qualifier to " - see that link I shared.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Credit Cards and Budgeting & Bank Accounts boards. I'll have another go tomorrow and let you know how I get on.
I've spent too long on the laptop already today 😉 😵How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.52% of current retirement "pot" (as at end October 2024)0 -
If you are still struggling, send me or post a sample of a line that won't import. Delete/substitute any personal data of course!

sausage_time said:Can you try setting the text qualifier to " - see that link I shared.I tried that, and it didn't make any difference.
However, I set the text qualifier to {none}, and that's had more success.
At least it's all now into columns, even if I have a few spurious quotation marks in there.
I think that'll do me.
Thanks again for your help.
It's not the most user friendly set of data, due to the way Raisin work, in that you have money coming in and out of your holding account (from either external transfers in or maturity/withdrawals) along with then the debits from that account when you fund a new account or make a deposit to one of the Easy Access accounts.
But at least I can filter between each now.How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.52% of current retirement "pot" (as at end October 2024)1 -
I also found that if I use 'Find and replace' I can remove all those " marks from the text.
(I tried to do that before importing the data, but it didn't work.)How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.52% of current retirement "pot" (as at end October 2024)0 -
Still seems slightly off to me. As above, can you send a sanitized line from the original file that won't import (and one that will for comparison)? If the file is properly generated by Raisin it should be possible to to import with no manual substitutions.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Credit Cards and Budgeting & Bank Accounts boards. Open Excel and click 'Text to Columns' under the 'Data' tab.
Click Delimited, check 'Semicolon', then click finish. Using your examples above it displays fine on my end.
If you want to remove speech marks, you could just CTRL+F, click the 'Replace' Tab and under 'Find what:' enter "
and under Replace with leave it totally blank (not even a space).Know what you don't1
