I would really appreciate any advice on how to handle this - do I just keep ignoring?
    A debt collector's letter.

The fourth post of the NEWBIES thread explains exactly how to deal with debt collector's letters, but to summarise that post - ignore them.
  • Hi All, just came back from being away for 2 weeks and have received what I believe would be a "letter of/before claim"?

They are saying I only have until tonight to pay the fine off, which is quite anxiety-inducing!

Hence, I'd really appreciate any guidance at this stage - do I keep ignoring or is now the time to make an appeal?

Also, re the note about it affecting your chances of getting credit, how true is this? Iirc when I was reading through the guidance material on this site, you don't get any criminal record/effect to your credit unless you LOSE in court AND then still proceed to not pay the fines - have I understood this correctly?

    Many thanks!

Why do you 'believe' it to be a Letter of Claim'?
The fact that is is only offering you '14 days' tells you it is not a Letter of Claim.
Nowhere in that letter is the phrase 'Letter of Claim' used..

You showed us a Trace letter back in October.
    My reply then was...

You have now shown us another Trace letter. Nothing has changed. Please don't bother showing us any more debt collectors letters.

Trace can't initiate a Letter of Claim. They are not the creditor linked to any alleged debt.  Ignore them!
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Hi All, I have now officially been issued a letter of claim.

I have spoken with a friend who has also been going through a PCN situation and was at this stage recently. They sent the advised (MSE template) email back to their respective claim company and was given a condescending dismissive email saying they won't reply substantively to a commonly used email.

I have only 4 days to respond as I have been away and only just seen this letter, and I would really appreciate any advice on how to navigate this.

I sincerely apologise if I am causing any inconvenience with these posts.

    Thank you so much.

You just send what the NEWBIES thread says.

And expect the same reply as your friend. The purpose of all their letters is to make you so anxious you pay up. Don't fall for it stick with the advice given.

Hi friends, my letter of claim was from Moorside Legal as seen in the letter. Unfortunately, the only medium for disputing the claim is letter or phone, however I am out the country and have been for~3 weeks already. So neither letter nor phoning them is a viable dispute option for me.

I have searched the web to find an email address for them, as their own website won't disclose this detail, and sent the MSE newbie email to help@moorsidelegal.co.uk. However, the default reply says:
"If a claim has been issued
If a County Court Claim has been issued against you, emailing us will not put the claim on hold. You will need to follow any instructions given to you by the Court to prevent a Judgment being obtained against you. You may wish to seek independent legal or debt advice."

I am not sure what to do now, as my 30 days since receiving the letter will be on Monday 31st March.

Does anyone have any advice on how to navigate this with Moorside?

    Thank you
