Tomato Energy (Electric Only Supplier) - Too Good To Be True ?

No contradiction there: £150pcm every month, & now we are into winter we pay more than that.bristolleedsfan said:
Contradiction ???????cfw1994 said:However! We currently pay £150pcm - *including* gas, yet TE suggest the bill for JUST electricity with them would be £184.83pcm 🧐Our electricity bill for a full month (mid Nov to Dec) was £58 for electricity, gas was 174 (we were away a bit).
BTW, I think TE customers are paying by variable DD.
So theirs is variable DirDebit, which makes sense. Thanks both 👍
Might make a switch in the new year. If they went bust, I wonder how hard it might be to swing back to Octopus. Mind you, Eon also have an EV friendly tariff.
 Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!1

I got a quote from them yesterday. 5p overnight with two multi-hour periods at 14p and the rest just over 23p. Those 14p slots align with when I cook so I guesstimate I'll use 60% at 14p, 5% at 5p and 35% at 23p. Average between 16p and 17p. And a lower standing charge (I'm a low user). They are starting to look like its worth the risks. I'll decide after Xmas.

Looks like Lifestyle quote assumes all usage will be at dearest time. not that it matters with variable DD, might answer why quotes seem high.0

Their estimates of usage are also way out. I'll use 120-140kWh per month, but TE seem to think I'll be using 200kWh during the winter months and 140kWh in the summer.bristolleedsfan said:Looks like Lifestyle quote assumes all usage will be at dearest time. not that it matters with variable DD, might answer why quotes seem high.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

There are (finally?) some visible prices for their Agile Smile tarrifs, this one is for yesterday (but we need today or tomorrow really 😅):
And the day before was different - the only way I can see is to get a quote through SMET2 neighbour.

            The formula would be handy.

Yeah, it doesn't follow the Agile prices (29/12):
 https://agileprices.co.uk/?tariff=AGILE-FLEX-22-11-25®ion=C
That peak 11-13 looks odd.. so it's either random, wrong day, or just follows totally different formula0

Probably the latter, the peak on Octopus Agile is usually dominated by the additional artificial boost of 12-14p during 4pm-7pm. On some days the Agile 4-7 period doesn't line up with the wholesale price peak - particularly on Sundays.Newbie_John said:Yeah, it doesn't follow the Agile prices (29/12):

im tempted to switch to TE Smile from octopus tracker. Seems much cheaper but feels wrong as no one else estimates £53 a month for elec. Current Octopus tracker I pay £60 to £65 a month.

TE estimates aren’t reliable. It’s best to do your own calculations which is difficult on a variable tariff like Smile or Agile. Why not compare Tracker with TE lifestyle which is a fixed tariff and very likely to work out cheaper for you?nekr0mantik said:im tempted to switch to TE Smile from octopus tracker.
