Tomato Energy (Electric Only Supplier) - Too Good To Be True ?

Thanks, have just contacted home energy and apparently it was cancelled on the 30th which is the day I signed up to them, they are blaming tomato for cancelling the switch.1

Both my smart meters, two properties, only show total import so what use is that in breaking down peak/off peak? Cheers!MWT said:decentchap100 said:Will I still get the TE prices up until the time they went bust - i.e yesterday? Or could I be on the hook for everything since the end of September (what I have paid TE up to) at SVR prices? If your billing has been working fine so far then you should still get the TE pricing for what will be your final bill.I would strongly recommend taking photos of the meter reading(s) just so you can prove it if necessary.0 -
One would hope as regulator who is responsible for licencing. That they have a responsibility to complete due diligence checks on anyone applying for a licence. So anyone that has been part of a failed supplier should be barred.MeteredOut said:
Do Ofgem have any powers to block an energy licence to a company due to its ownership, or relationship of its owners to certain individuals?born_again said:
Lets hope that Ofgem, ensure that any of the directors or family of them. Are never let lose in the energy supply market again.Doc_N said:
Sadly for both the business and the consumer worlds, it’s all too easy for the directors of failed companies to ditch all the debt and start all over again with another company. Very often, indeed, the same company - minus its debt of course.GingerTim said:

Have you pressed the buttons to show R1, R2 etc?NormalNorman said:

Have you been receiving any bills from Tomato for each of the properties, or are you one of the customers where they screwed up your meter/s?NormalNorman said:

If you have had bills, did you think they wee correct and what period did the last bills cover?
If I was still with Tomato now, I would be downloading the 30 minute data from either MyWatts or free from a 3rd party supplier like Bright/Glowmarkt back to the date of my last correct bill and calculating myself what is due up to the point of the SOLR taking over.0 -

I tried to switch to Octopus last week online, but got error message saying there was a COS conflict. I rang Octopus and they said it was on hold as Tomato had gone into liquidation. They said it seemed likely that SoLR would be BG. Interestingly, someone came and did a meter read last Wednesday.0

No issues with billing. One was TE, switched away in Oct and the other has been on UW, EDF and OFTM, again seems to work perfectly. Bills show off peak usage but smart meters just show total import. Pressing buttons does not help. Always been a concern but things seem to work ok.lohr500 said:

Smart meters use hh data for tou billing in most cases. Yes there ARE multiple accumulators available (more, in fact, than 2) but most suppliers don't program their use, they just use the hh registers and add up the appropriate periods. If you have a smart meter and are/were on a TOU tariff then for heavens sake sign up with hildebrand / bright and download the 13 months of hh usage data.0

I guess we will find out in due course whether that includes credit Tomato owed in GSOP / EO compensation.SJMALBA said:
According to the MSE article:Smeagal said:I submitted a switch away last week to home energy and was given today the 6th for the switch to complete, presumably that would not go ahead now?
'If you've already started a switch to another provider, your switch will continue. You don't need to do anything. If you have outstanding credit it will be paid to you by the supplier Ofgem appoints to take over Tomato Energy.'
