I strongly suggest you go into the Octopus app and review all of your historic reads.
I've looked at the app today - all historic meter reads are shown as whole numbers, & SD-1 is 5201. However on my bills, the same readings have a decimal (so 5201.6) & others have said on here that any reads with decimals are estimates. So IDK...

I've back calculated from Bright app data that my read should have been around 5208 on SD-1, so not wildly out. I only know what time the photos of my meter are received, not necessarily when they were taken.

I've had £16 credited to my account recently. It was at 0, as I'd paid the final bill, even though I didn't agree with it. CS said I'd be re-billed (using a less wrong meter read, my words, not CS) but no new bill is showing.

Not sure how I can be credited without re-billing?

Perhaps it will all become clear soon  :s

No reply from TE about opening meter reading yet. No @bristolleedsfan my first (incorrect) meter reading on myWatts is SD+10, which I didn't submit.

Have to say I preferred the old, dumb meter system. I (or a meter reader) submitted an actual meter read, every 3 months or so, the bill was calculated with correct usage, & I paid in arrears. And that worked!

I don't know where you got the idea that "any" readings with decimals are estimated. The change of supply reading needs to be a whole number.
Smart meters avoid all this faff when they are read by the suppliers. A dumb meter wouldn't have helped you in this situation - there would have been no SD-1 reading, and the incorrect reading (likely an estimate) would probably still be incorrect.
It sounds like the photographed reading they've agreed to accept is not far out and they seem to be moving on that, so hopefully that should resolve it.

It was said that Octopus final reading that have digits after decimal point are estimates created within Octoverse because as Masonic said switch opening/final readings should be shown as whole numbers.

Octopus can and do sometimes give goodwill credits without re-billing, idea is getting proof of SD1 reading registered with new supplier you ensure Octopus do not charge a penny more.

I meant to update you guys with my complaint about my delayed switch - TE responded to me really promptly to say they’d pay my £80 into my bank account which is good news!

@nikkijayne28, your positive update has prompted me to raise a complaint with TE for a delayed switch last month (welcome email, contract received etc).

Good to know they are finally dishing out this free cash.

Just phoned again and they said the switch will definitely be happening around the 6th of April - imagine that'll be the same for a few other people.

They did confirm the tariff will be the same as the one I signed up for, which is good news, and I was a bit worried after the last person I spoke to said they couldn't confirm it. Also asked about the compensation and they said £40 will be credited to the account. Couldn't be bothered to tell them it should be £80 at this point as I feel a bit bad for all the sales people who have been drafted into customer service - I'll sort that out when the switch has gone through.

This is all good news for TE and their customers, as that pause seems to have helped them get back on top of everything, and i assume come April they will be taking customers hand over fist as they are the cheapest supplier across the whole Uk, so this is great news.

    Go team TE. :)

Be interesting to see where Octopus goes with its TOU tariffs when the std s/c's are cut in most areas from April, they may fight back if there are too many customers doing a runner. They have already adjusted their 14 mth fix and added electric radiators for those who want their heat pump tariff, Cosy.

Remembering that across all customers in the UK 90% are on standard variable tariffs and fixed tariffs. With SVT accounting for some 80% of that figure.

So the absolute max customers Octopus could lose is 10% but more like 1% max may deem the risk acceptable and other factors.

I don't expect Octopus to react to what Tomato are doing in anyway whatsoever.

It could be that Octopus has a higher than the UK average number of customers on complex / TOU tariffs because that is something they are well known for and specialise in.

That being said, I suspect Octopus aren't overly concerned over what Tomato are doing and are probably already readying themselves to be SOLR if blight unfortunately hits the TE greenhouse.

Thanks both, I didn't realise Octopus would credit an account without showing how they decided on that amount. It doesn't fit with using the SD+11 photo, or the SD-1 + usage data from Glowmarkt. But it's more than I was expecting to get back, so a result of sorts.

Still no TE confirmation of the opening meter read yet.

Good to hear that TE are working through failed/delayed switches.
