    Just a little note

All furniture at the moment we have is second hand for the simple reason with 4 kids under the age of 9 we know it's going to get ruined. As the kids get older our furinture will get newer......

We said that - then we got a teething puppy ...........
Oh dear, here we go again.
  • I've only just seen your post. I've picked my DH's brain (he's an antique restorer) apparently you need a strong solution of oxalic acid crystals mixed with hot water. Apply with a cotton bud then when its dry neutralize the spot with vinegar.

Not sure where you could buy the oxalic acid in small quantities though. Have done a quick google and came across this site. http://www.easy2diy.com/cm/easy/diy_ht_index.asp?page_id=35720405
If all else fails I wouldn't imagine that it would cost too much for a restorer to do the job.

    Good luck!

My husband rang the place where we got the dining table & chairs from this morning and the chairs do come in pairs. However, we are really really lucky as one pair of chairs was returned to them as one chair was damaged and they have agreed to sell the undamaged one to us for £35.00.
Thanks to everyone for all your help. It's nice to know people care.

Really pleased you've sorted it out.
    Have a lovely New Year.

Thanks again for all your lovely replies. I'm so looking forward to picking the new chair up tomorow.

In another post a few days ago i said my new years resolution was going to be to not get so worked up about things...well good job its not new year yet as i'd have broken it already.....this time i was really worked up and upset. My daughter said to me it was no good crying over spilt milk and i know she was right but i couldn't help it.

Anyway, you lot are all wonderful, thanks again.
  • Hi,

I'm hoping someone will be able to let me know if the tips above will work on wood veneer?

i got most of the biro out with some cream cleaner but there are a couple of stuborn bits...not to mention the indents - will the hot cloth work if it's not real wood?

    Thanks!

What type of veneer, what is it on?

I'd be very carefull you don't cause the veneer to lift.

Have you tried Hairspray ? - spray on a cloth then gentley rub or spray direct ( try somewhere else first)My sister in law swears by it - it takes the red dot off of sales items - I used it to get biro off of my cream leather sofa - try it in an inconspicuous ( sp??)part first.

I had a friends child who tore wallpaper off - they never got invited back...

  • Amanda - haven't had a chance to the hairspray tip yet but will let you know if it works!

Lorain - it's wood veneer on a coffee table - it's only 6 months old!!

i tried using an ink rubber to see if that would work but it's just left a shiny mark - the table is matt finish - any tips on how to get rid of that...!

...starting to think i'm just making it worse!
