If you want to get the erasers then tesco and £ shops do a cheaper version which works the same, suprised the hairspray didn't work, I don't think there is anything I haven't got biro off with hairspray.
One day I might be more organised...........

It wasn't a chair I was particulary attached to, unlike the OP, so I was happy to help. It doesn't help to be panicky and everyone around you is giving conflicting advice.

Frugal is right though...be careful with the nail polish remover - it could also remove the varnish if you scrub too vigorously and it sounds like that has already started to happen with all your other attempts. It took the pen off my chair no problem, but it was only on the surface and hadn't broken the varnish. Depending on how badly the kids have damaged the chair, it might not work!

As for those JML magic erasers, I've always wanted try one out but heard they were rubbish. Quite funny, I had a friend who told me it didn't work...that was until she discovered that you had to wet it with water before "erasing" anything! :rotfl:

Let us know how you get on kippers!

Did you purchase it from DFS?, if so they have a french polisher in store who may come out for free, otherwise he may do a job on the side for £20 like he did for me, my mother dropped a wine glass and it dented the top of the chair as it fell, he was here for an hour, filled it with a resin and then buffed it up, you can't tell.

If you didn't purchase from someone who offers after sales care, try this link, it may just help. http://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/Wood_Reviver.htm

I do hope you get it sorted.

Oh, how awful. I was going to suggest hairspray but it's not worked. I really hope you find a solution.

  • You should try magic sponge erasers, you can buy them from Amazon:

These things are brilliant and remove stains easily, good luck.

  • I had this on a brand new coffee table once - my mum recommended toothpaste (the white kind).

Tried it and it worked!!! Hope you get this before you shoot off to town.

Good morning all. I'm so grateful for all your replies....you really are so kind and gozaimasu i can't beleive you did that for me, if it hadn't come off your furniture then you would have been in the same position as me, you are such a wonderful person.

I'm going to look for the magic eraser today and if all else fails i'll try nail varnish remover.

My husband is going to ring the place we got it from and see if we can buy another chair (though i think they come in pairs). The wood is really heavy and i don't think it will be in the sale anymore, I can't imagine we could afford another chair to replace it, so i think i will have to position it so you can't see it when you come in the room.

I don't think there is anything else i can do except watch everymove their kids make when they come round. I'd forgotten until yesterday when my daughter reminded me, that i found pen on my landing wall last time they came round. Their parents are lovely and would do anything for you (except watch their kids) but i don't want to cause an arguement.

It was a rotten day yesterday as i found my eldest had caught nits again! I know i caught them really early as i only found two on the nit comb and she only had a few eggs on her hair (but we obviously all had to have the nit comb and will again in a couple of days and again and again until completely gone. I suspect the nits came from them as well as we haven't been near any other children since our school broke up on the 14th Dec.

Sorry to go on. Anyway thanks a million all.

Hope you get it sorted! this reminded me of years ago when a friends child got into my dining room with a toy metal plane and perforated several times one of our leather look chairs! The Mum couldn't see what the problem was  (the chair wasn't an expensive one but was all we could afford at the time)

It is surprising what you may already have around the house to remove stains, I once discovered that shaving foam removes ink from dralon sofas!
