kippers, once you get the pen out ( and I'd be tempted to go with nail varnish remover, rinsed and wiped off very quickly!), if you find there's a dent left in the wood from the pressure of the pen, then a cloth dipped in boiling water and laid over the dent can help lift a lot. ( And breathe! That must be the longest sentence on OS:rotfl: ) Good Luck, I really feel for youYou never get a second chance to make a first impression.0

I'd be tempted to try meths on a cotton bud, really hope you can get it out - I had a small house guest who used permanent marker on the "ball" on the top of the stairs bannister to draw a snowmans' face. The mum concerned thought it was cute.. :mad:0

We used baby wipes on a biro mark on our table. It came right off but i'd try it on a part of the chair you can't see incase it damage the wood in any way.January budget

Thanks for all your replies
I've tried bi-carb, toothpaste, baking soda, water, dettox and not even a little bit has moved. I haven't got any meths or nail varnish remover, i'll get some in the morning and try.
Its started to take the varnish off the chair now. I'm so angry and so upset. We hardly ever have anything new and we waited until our own children were old enough not to draw on things before we bought it as well!0 -
Definitely worth trying the nail polish remover asap. I completely understand that you feel upset & angry, personally I'd be tempted to say something to the parents. However give the remover a bash but be careful if the varnish is already starting to come off. I don't know a lot about this sort of thing, it may even be worth popping into a diy store & asking someone there ? Good luck with it

suggests using saddle soap or a pencil eraser !!0 -
Aww *hugs* hon, a light rub with very fine sandpaper and a coat of varnish will make it like new. Try wilco's yaucht varnish, I keep it under the sink, very definitely kid proof. Annoying though, I know. I have just started to get furniture that is new (rather than cast off from others) and have waited years - DS is 22!! to do this. I admit to shouting "coaster!!" rather a lot :rolleyes:0

I can't remember the magic ingredient but OXY 10 pads work wonders with biro.
I got some for a doll ages ago, I am sure it was on here too!
I would test an unseen area first to be safe.
Good luck!

Hairspray is supposed to get biro off leather, might be worth a try.0
