Hi all
Up early and did half hour strength training before work. Not a bad day at the paid stuff, met up with DH at lunch time but felt a bit anxious. Struggled to get motivated after that.
LR carpet has come up well even though it's 11 years old. We want to do a revamp when funds allow, which will probably be a while. Other flying has been minimal.

Sliding in late in the week - so what's new?
We got home on Monday and have, in theory, a clear week at home as my brother is on visiting duties so Mr N and I can enjoy Mr N's birthday on Saturday.
Yesterday comprised a gym swim, going to Mr T, doing a load of washing and unpacking.
Technically my uni contract ends today, so in 50mins time I will be retired......I sent a farewell email to the admin staff and cleared everything out of the uni area of the computer as I don't know how much longer I will have access. I have to keep reports for 6yrs then destroy 'the evidence'.
Today was very lazy as I love the Olympics and the triathlons are among my favourites.....eek, brutal conditions for the ladies first thing this morning. So a lot of the day was glued to the TV. Also managed to:
- put away some clean washing
- make a spinach (home grown) frittata to go with salad for dinner
- water greenhouse
- take an unexpected call from one of the psychologists in Mum's stroke team. I'd noticed early on that they do support sessions for relatives/carers, and I'd asked to have one just after/during her second stroke. When she went back into hospital, I thought I'd postponed or cancelled it as the time was busy and the immediate panic past. However, clearly they still had me in the diary so after telling her I didn't really need much support at present, I ranted on for nearly half an hour! It was helpful.
Hm, don't think I've done much else. However, I've begun to book classes at the gym as I think it is important to start getting back to some sort of regular structure in my life. The psychologist agreed, especially when I said that I found it hard to unwind when it wasn't my turn "on duty" as I was still mentally thinking of Mum and trying to plan for the future - which of course isn't possible yet. I'm not usually a control freak, but I do like research and trying to get organised.
CofG I've used those carton egg whites but can't actually remember what for, although I remember using some of the carton and freezing the rest in ice-cube bags! Maybe a souffle as that uses egg whites? I'll have to ransack through my recipes as it will annoy me.....oh maybe friandes. I went through a phase of baking those after I had one when on holiday. I'd certainly assume that one could make meringues with them. I got offered egg-white omelette once as part of a gf meal on a plane - since when did eggs contain gluten?? It was very bland and a bit pointless I thought.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.8 -
Thanks Narco. I threw the rest of the carton away as I couldn't envisage using the rest for anything.Happy retirement! I'm sure you will find you're just as busy, if not more so, than when you were working. Not much flying done again today as (a) it was too hot and (b) I wanted to watch the Olympics. I popped out this morning to the shops and also took a bag of recycling down. Other than that it was just food prep and washing up and oh, I watered those house plants for which I am responsible. A few years ago I bought a stephanotis which, at the time, was covered in flowers. It's now very large as it climbs like crazy and it sits next to a decorative bamboo ladder, which it has totally taken over. It usually flowers only once a year, when the weather if very warm. I noticed a few days ago that it has one flower coming out; I was hoping for a bit more!Like Narco I was very lazy for the rest of the day and watched all sorts of things at the Olympics, which I really enjoyed.7

Morning all xx
How is it August already?
I'm up, made my bed, dressed, packed my lunch bag, changed all my calendars over, eaten breakfast, completed Wordle and Connections (Sh messaged me to say it was easy today. Not for yings it isn't. Blessings on all yangs 😊), and supped my brew.
I'll feed the birds, refill the birdbath and hedgehogs' dish, and water my hanging basket before I trundle off to work. My hanging basket looks a treat - obviously benefiting from my morning routine 😊.
Have a good day. It's overcast here this morning- not sure if it's the stuff that quickly burns off or proper clouds 🤔 Going to check the forecast but I'm wearing sandals whatever. Twot for shoes!
Live to all.

Rosie has to go to the vet today for her annual check. Thunderstorms are expected later, so she will be a quivering wreck
I have sewing to be done; also cooking, 1st-of-the-month admin, emptying and cleaning the kitchen FF and sorting out food for K and the girls, a haircut, and packing, and probably not enough time to do all of it.
Happy August, everyone xxx5 -

Some days I can only get one line on Connections, but today I got three and obviously the fourth falls into place but I would never have got it - tube socks? Crew socks? Never heard of either. Very American, I assume. Either way it's a great way to kick start my brain every morning.Happy retirement Narco!Foodbank done, paperwork dropped off for the volunteer who can't come into the building for health reasons, things dropped off at the Scrapstore, things bought from there which I need for a couple of months and dog food bought.I bought a V@x on an offer on this website a few months ago but its developed a fault so I need to send it back. I had to source a cardboard box for it, and the size and shape are unusual. Walking back to the car from the f'bank I saw one in a back alley - different make but very much a vacuum cleaner, so I purloined it, emptied out the rubbish in it when I got home and the v@x fits perfectly. That took about a month to find, but I do wonder what the householder will think when they realise their rubbish has been stolen! (It was in a public place so I had absolutely no qualms about purloining it and it wasn't niffy rubbish but I have been a good citizen and done their recycling for them.)The sitting room is a complete tip with furniture all over the place but Belovéd put the table, settle and chairs back in the right place in the dining room which looks a lot better. He's washed his most complicated ornament in the sitting room and I've washed my most fragile one in the dining room, so progress is being made. I've also washed the fireplace surround in the sitting room which was something I was absolutely dreading so the next phase will be relatively straightforward now that the hardest things have been done.I've been flat out all day and am now not going to do a thing until tomorrow.
Better is good enough.5 -
I’m definitely a Yang - blasted through wordle and connected in record time. Was feeling under pressure to identify myself - both feet are firmly in the Yang camp.
Busy day at work, a few rumbles of thunder around but very distant so that they probably got mistaken for my stomach gurgling. A couple of very short showers and that was that. Very warm again now, and I so cba to sort put any dinner. My excuse is that I am waiting for the Mr M delivery at 7pm…
1 load through the wm before work, and I left DH to unload the dw from last night. Flying by proxy. Oh I am full of all the reasons why I’m not doing an awful lot of flying lately.
Congratulations, Narc0, on retiring. Fully deserved, I am sure. Can you see my green envy from there?5 -
This morning I met a friend from church for coffee and the popped to Waitrose for a few bits. I came back, made lunch an WUPA A's breakfast pots and the lunch ones and then spent most of the the rest of the day watching the Olympics. I only stopped to make our supper wash up again and have a quick S&S in the kitchen. I really must do some proper housework soon but I'm quite enjoying being lazy. One of the things I love about the Olympics is that you get to see sports you wouldn't normally even think about (or in some cases even be aware they existed). Today I watched Kayaking, BMX bike racing and also riding on a course where they did acrobatic tricks on their bikes, swimming and rowing, none of which I see normally. It was the first time I'd seen the BMX competitions and I surprised myself by really enjoying it and I'm looking forward to the racing semis and finals tomorrow.I've heard of Wordle but what is this Connections that you all talk about?5

6.20 am is my new getting up time apparently. Suits me. Not twirly... although I might disagree with myself tomorrow.
I'm up, made my bed, dressed, packed my lunch bag, eaten breakfast and supped a brew. Birds will be fed and water distributed where needed before I trundle off to the paid stuff.
CoG Connections is another New York Times game. A grid of 16 words that you have to put into groups of 4. A simpler version of the Wall they have only Only Connect.
I was told something yesterday that totally blew my mind. I researched and it's true. Not everyone has an inner monologue! I do. I can't shut the blasted thing up. Sometimes it turns into dialogue. I just assumed that everyone does. Apparently not. I asked K and she looked at me gone out - she doesn't have an inner monologue. I can't imagine how she thinks. She can't imagine how I think. Research says this was discovered in the late 1990s. Because everyone writes down their thoughts as words no-one twigged that not everyone actually thinks in words. And it's not linked to IQ. My mind is officially blown...and is having numerous conversations with itself trying to understand this new piece of information.
Anyhoo. Which one are you?
Stay cool. Stay hydrated. Take care.
