That's encouraging news, Narc0 xx
Hope all went well today, Fayolle xx
To add to my earlier flying report:
- dusted and hoovered LR, DR and hall
- emptied the bins and washed them out
- cut down honesty and aquilegia seed heads, in the hopes of having a decent show of flowers along the drive next year. The weedkiller attack in late spring left a burnt mess which has been most depressing, but hopefully the extra rain we've had since will have washed the poison out of the soil, and the seeds are free and easy to germinate - I shall also add in evening primrose, which grows like a (beautiful) weed here
- walked Rosie without getting wet
- prepped and cooked meals as required
- decluttered a few zzz.
I have just discovered an online document which has upturned my research in one of my family lines: 2 men with the same forename and surname working at different levels of seniority in the same department, one of whom is possibly the father of the other. It would certainly account for the fact that I have never found any other reference beyond one report in The Times newspaper of a wild party held in August 1850 that describes one of them (but which one????) as "a retired medical gentleman"! [takes large pinch of salt]

Narc0, my mum went into one of those half way centres too. She loved it and like you say, it was so much easier for friends to visit, and was a good way to get some independence but with staff around. She had a little kitchen area in her bedsit which had a small fridge, toaster and a kettle, and was kept stocked with bread, milk, cereal and tea / coffee. I hope it works out for your mum too x
Since I got home, I have washed my hair, stripped DD’s bed, gathered up towels, loaded the wm, sorted out clean washing and spied dust, cobwebs and bathrooms that need cleaning. But a friend has invited me out to a nearby pub to eat, so I am trying to be spontaneous and we are going.Round, I hope you survived the day x Maybe evening reading will be more relaxing and mindful than a pre work rush. Just tossing the idea into the pot 😊6 -
Good news about your Mum Narco.Tricky couple of days at the paid stuff, feeling tired and anxious. Same old stuff.
Have run the cordless hoover around, put all the clean washing away, hung some washing out, ironed a few bits, cleaned the kitchen and had a bit of a general tidy.
Going to try to get an early night. Tomorrow is another day.6 -
Morning all xx
I'm up, made my bed, dressed, packed my lunch bag, completed Wordle and Connections, eaten breakfast and supped a brew.
No reading of any sort yesterday. Came home and flumped in front of the TV before going to bed at 9.15 as I was falling asleep.
Horrible dream means I've woken up feeling under par.
Everyone was pleased to see me yesterday- and told me how they were swamped with work last week. Funny how that happens every time I have a week off isn't it? Anyhoo I didn't pick up the reins and run. I didn't even trot. I ambled. I think it was the enforced peopling that wore me out.
Oh and I sent an email to ICO to ask chase up my complaint.
And breathe. Today is a new day. Let's hold hands YL - we got this 😊
Love to all

Hello all.
Today I have done a work shift, walked Poppet, done dailies, had hair cut and made a ginger cake which is almost ready to come out of the oven. DH portions it for his packed lunches. Did wordle in 3, I'm not so good at connections.
Next is exercising, work shift and tennis tonight.Spend less now, work less later.7 -
Today is Rosie's 7th Gotcha Day (ie adoption), which makes her 12 or 13 years old. The three of us have walked up the very big hill, almost to the top - whilst we stuck to the easy path, Rosie chased rabbits through the bracken, which she thinks is wonderful fun. The sun shone for us and the views were tremendous. We came home to a fry-up and she had the bitty ends of the bacon as a special treat.
Before we went out I had hoovered downstairs, but by the time we'd finished lunch the kitchen floor was covered in bits of soil off somebody's walking shoes, so I shall have to do it again.
An easy afternoon ahead (J is here to do the garden) and then I have to go to a church council meeting this evening.
Hope everyone's having a good day, especially YL and Round xxx5 -
Afternoon all. Flying ant day here today, the seagulls have been going crazy.I've dried two loads of washing including bedding but otherwise just kept things picked up, washed up, put away etc. Very warm this afternoon.5

Sorry I've been AWOL - just too much going on. I can't remember most of it but last week 3 friends came for lunch so that was preceded by a cleaning and tidying frenzy. On Friday, one of the same friends came back and looked after A so that I could go to the funeral of my best friend's father, who died recently at the age of 90. I needed a new suit (I didn't have one as I rarely go anywhere now that requires a suit and I've disposed of all my old work suits) so I popped into the west end and bought one from a 'gentlemen's outfitters' (it's very old-fashioned so I think it does need to be described as that
). They had a sale on, which was fortunate. Their trousers are never hemmed though so I had to take them somewhere locally on Tuesday to have that done and then collected them on Thursday, which was a faff I could have done without. On Thursday I also went to the chiropodist as my feet were in need of being serviced, especially as I was about to spend a whole day in my rarely-worn smart black shoes, which are also my most uncomfortable.
The funeral was in Manchester so it was a whole day affair for me, with the travelling. The train there arrived 20 mins late so they made an announcement saying that we were entitled to a 25% refund. It would be nice if they just made the refund automatically but of course you have to go online and claim it. I must remember to do that as the fare was ridiculously expensive. On Sunday evening I started with a sore throat, which I still have, so I probably caught something at the funeral or on the train/underground. I had a Covid test kit which is still in-date so I tested myself this morning but it was negative.A is recovering well from his second angioplasty but grumbling about all the additional pills he now has to take (although I manage it all - he just has to put them in his mouth and swallow!) Our soon-to-be-89 year old friend in Plymouth has gone back into a care home as he is 'extremely weak and wobbly' according to his nephew. He doesn't feel up to talking no the phone so we have sent a couple of cards. In theory it's a temporary arrangement but his nephew is uncertain if he will be able to return home - somehow I doubt it. The GP visited him in the home and said he needs to have some heart tests and he is waiting to go to the hospital for those.Yesterday I took off the bedding and put on fresh and washed the 'old' bedding and dried it before sending to the laundry today for ironing. Today I washed and dried the towels, cleaned the basin in the bathroom, the lav, the mirrors and the floor, and S&S in the kitchen and vacc'd around.Happy birthday to Rosie and to @Jazee for last week. @Fayolle sorry to hear about your daughter and I hope she is recovering. Good news on your mum @Narc0lepsy I hope that that makes things a bit easier for you, both physically and mentally. The other day, for some reason, a book I read as a child came into my mind: Emil and the Detectives by Erich Kästner. Has anyone read it? I've bought a copy to send to my great nephew but I'd quite like to re-read it before I send it, if I have the time as I recall enjoying it very much as a child. I also bought The Family from One End Street, by Eve Garnett, which I also recall enjoying, and will send that too.I wasn't able to catch-up on all the posts I missed, so apologies if I haven't commented on something I should have.

I've heard of it CoG but never read it. I hope you enjoy it as much as you remember. I hope Miss Fayolle's appointment went well. I'm so pleased you've found a halfway house for your mother Narco, and that it helps with her lonliness. Happy birthday Rosie! This week has not gone to plan, but it's been busy on a kind of housewifery kind of front. I found a pile of teatowels I needed and knew must be somewhere but couldn't remember where, but when I dug them out with the aprons, tablecloths and napkins they'd obviously been stored for years and had gone a bit funky. Two days sunshine alone didn't cure it but a 33/33/33 mix of gin (far, far too strong to drink, homemade Christmas gifts from well-meaning friends that have hung around for many a year) vinegar and water has, the issue being finding a spray bottle that atomised the stuff rather than drenching the fabrics with drops. Now it all needs ironing and then I can use it to pack away some delicate stuff that needs to be well padded. I'm hoping when it all needs to be used a quick steam iron will make it all look crisp without much hassle and the crocks will survive a couple of months of storage.I've also decided to get rid of all our old bird feeding gibble now that we have one feeder that the rats, pigeons and magpies can't raid, but the small birds can visit in peace. That's all going on Gumtree when I've photographed it.Computers are playing up here and it's taking a lot of visits from our very geeky but brilliant techie chappie to sort them out. Fingers crossed one more visit should do it.Better is good enough.6
