Barclay’s £175 Switch Offer July 2024

Well quick update.....I switched my account back to my new second Chase current account.
There was an issue with a direct debit (gocardless which pays into my Halifax account), so Chase gave me £75 as a goodwill gesture before I even asked.
Quite a good switch this has been! £248 profit.0 -
*Possible disaster has struck!!*
Can anyone advise?
I just visited my local Barclays branch having completed my switch on the 9th and met all other conditions, but not received my switch bonus.
I realise that Barclays technically have 28 days to pay, however two of my friends who switched on the same day I did received their bonuses and many people here have.
What happened at the bank?
This was actually my second visit (I met a customer advisor last week who assured me that I should have received the bonus already and would by yesterday).I had a meeting with another advisor in a cubical, he spent a while checking everything out then said:
‘You haven’t met the conditions … Firstly the £825 you paid in wasn’t money from your salary’
(I immediately pointed out the conditions say nothing about the money having to be from any given source, only that you have to pay in £800, which I did).
’Secondly, it appears that you have an open savings account with 0.61 in it, which you opened 17 years ago, therefore you have an account with us and do not qualify for the switch bonus’.
So that might be totally catastrophic (although he’s checking it out with colleagues in the switch team and will try to let me know later today what their verdict is). I completely forgot I had the account, it wasn’t even showing in the app when I first installed it!
Have I messed up? I’m sure the first point they raised was bo*lox, but the second one might hold water.
He said he’ll try to find out and in any event it can take up to 28 days (which will expire next Wednesday).
What do people here think?
Thanks 🙏

The people you speak to on the phone are so variable, two of the three advisors I spoke with didn’t even know about the switch bonus, the third was like some kind of mutant who didn’t have a clue what they were doing).
If I do get a call-back today (I doubt I will) from the guy in the branch saying I’m not entitled to the bonus, what should I do?1 -

bigstevex said:So I got accepted for the premier account (applied for the normal one but guess my income was in the requirements for the premier one) and subsequently signed up for blue rewards but am I reading it right if you have the premier one you don't need blue rewards? Just opening/eligible for the premier account is enough?
They offer an avios reward option for £12 a month too on the premier one which I'd use and didn't even know about until I got accepted for it, seems I had to pick one reward or the other though, the £175 or open the avios reward account and get 25k avios free.I believe you can get both as a new customer switching in. Good offer, even if you convert the 25000 Avios in to £125 worth of Nectar points.Worth noting that you also don't need Blue Rewards to access Apple TV or the Rainy Day Saver (5% up to £5k) as a Premier customer now. Not sure about the cashback side of things though, looks like that might be remaining Blue Rewards exclusive.0 -

Can you still get this reward? Says switching takes 7 days? Or do you get the 175 as long as the switch is initiated prior to 30th August?
thanks0 -
