It’s now Thursday 22nd, my full switch completed on Friday 9th (I’ve fulfilled all the other conditions).  No text advising that the £175 is on its way has arrived yet, nor has the switch bonus itself … it’s still early on but most people seem to have received a text by this point?
My switch completed on 15/8 so about a week after yours. I got the text confirming the £175 is on its way on 20/8.

Wow, that’s worrying (although happy for you, though)!
Please update us when you receive your bonus :)
Its been paid today, 23/8.. A lot quicker than I was expecting.

Thanks for the update - I actually visited my local branch this afternoon, they confirmed two things:

Firstly, I have fulfilled all the criteria.
Secondly, I should have received the £175 a few days ago (and the text message advising that would happen a few days earlier).

Apparently, a glitch in their system affecting several customers has resulted in the switch bonus not being paid out.  The helpful person I spoke with in the branch advised that they have emailed the switching team on my behalf to request that they manually credit my account with the bonus (it should happen automatically a few days after you meet the conditions).

Given the bank holiday weekend, I was advised that it might take until Wednesday for the bonus to hit my account (although it might not happen until the end of next week).  This would still be within the 28 day period, which is still less of a wait than many of the other banks (especially TSB 😂😂), just a bit disappointing not to have received it already.

This is the last Switch I’ll be able to go for for quite a while, all other now exhausted!  The RBS / NatWest / Ulster Bank triumverate were definitely the most satisfying along the way ☺️
  • Is it too late (Sat 24th Aug) for me to start a switch to Barclays for the switching bonus?

Looking at the deadline of needing to pay in £800 by 30th August, and reading of all the problems people have been experiencing with this switch, plus the bank holiday weekend, I'm thinking I may have missed the boat.

Hi, @FirstCoffee I am in the same position and I THINK that as long as you successfully submit the Switch application by the deadline of 30th August, you have 30 days to complete it ie. pay in the £800

Perhaps others can comfirm that, please :)

You may be ok.  I signed up at the start of the week via the app (note you need to do this during daytime as the option to open account for new users disappears overnight).  The account was approved and showed in the app with an account number and sort code, so you can pay in the £800 via bank transfer straight away.

    - Barclays app doesn't let you set up new payees for 4 days so the £800 may be locked in for that long, or longer if there's app issues
    - You'd need a donor switch account with 2 D/Ds set up and ready to go
    - From memory the switch option showed in the app as soon as the account is open so again you should be able to start that without delay.  It only needs to be started by 30th August, it can complete after that.  They SMS you when it's started.
    - Signing up for Blue Rewards option also there straight away
    - The app isn't great as reported here many have problems being locked out.  I'd do the application, pay in the £800, activate Blue Rewards, start the switch and then leave the app well alone for a few days.
  • Thanks both. I've just downloaded and set up the Barclays app, opened an Everyday Banking bank account, transferred £800 into it, initiated the switch in-app from another current account, and signed up for Blue Rewards. Phew. Fingers crossed, cutting it fine (and I know I'll have to pay that £5). I hope the hard credit check was worth it!
  • I think I've messed up :(

I transferred £800 into the account just BEFORE I signed up for Blue Rewards. I'm now thinking I should've made that payment AFTER I'd signed up for Blue Rewards.

The step-by-step on Barclays website lists it in that order, as does Martin's info. I'm guessing that's because paying in £800+ each month is a condition of Blue Rewards.

Don't worry too much; I did the same and I was fine.  I don't think the criteria the list has to be met in the order it's listed
  • Thanks @MisterMotivated.

I suppose I could always wait 4 days (until I can set up a payee), take the 800 out then put it back in again. Maybe overcautious, but I don't want that hard search to have gone to waste.

So I got accepted for the premier account (applied for the normal one but guess my income was in the requirements for the premier one) and subsequently signed up for blue rewards but am I reading it right if you have the premier one you don't need blue rewards?  Just opening/eligible for the premier account is enough?

They offer an avios reward option for £12 a month too on the premier one which I'd use and didn't even know about until I got accepted for it, seems I had to pick one reward or the other though, the £175 or open the avios reward account and get 25k avios free.
