Thanks for your advice. I think I'll leave it as it is for now.

I have checked the resort fee but its already paid for with the cost of booking according to expedia so no extra costs there. The other hotels are nearly double the price and to be honest the room itself looks the same, just a different location. For £15 a night I'm not going to complain if I have to spend a few dollars on a taxi in the evening. At the end of the day we are doing this on a budget and will be our second trip to the USA in 2009 and I'd rather have a budget hotel and a good time, then no time at all.

You are welcome mate whatever you do I hope that you have a good trip and I guess as long as you know what to expect (and I hope that we have been able to make that clear) that you cant be let down too much and that is half the battle beaten.

    ferf,

Wow, what a trip report. Loved reading it, thanks very much for posting it. (Hey and I even get a mention, I feel so honoured!!)

    Thanks again.

    Stew

Thank YOU again! I really don't think I would have come across the Mystery Adventures thing had you not posted it - haven't seen it anywhere else...and it really was one of my all-time favorite things I've done in Vegas. :)

    TangoBunny,

I was there at the end of last May and it was hot 100 +, it really felt like being in an oven so I wouldn't worry about not having sun.

Try and avoid the end of May as the last Monday is memorial day, we were there for that weekend and it was crazy, the casinos and restaurants were full and the strip at night was real busy.

I'm still toying with mid May but money may be a bit tight this year so i'll have to wait and see.

I booked the MGM in January and rebooked two or three times between then and going away to get the best deal.

    Stew

    Thanks Stew
I was thinking of 10 days from 12th -22nd May...I'm hoping the temp will be ok for us then.....but my dates are very flexible if you think maybe we should go the week before

The 22nd May (its my birthday!!) is the Friday of the Memorial weekend, that would be the day it would start to get busy, I would be happy with those dates if I was leaving on the 22nd.

    Hope that helps.

Just to give you a bit more info (though it seems you've made your mind up :) ), I think it will probably cost between $10 + $15 dollars each 'trip' in the taxi (depending where you go on the strip), meaning if you go to the strip in the morning, then come back later in the day, then go out again in the evening, then come back from your evening out, that will cost you $50'ish for the day in taxi fares ~ £35(?)

I've only been up near the strat once though to be honest (not much that interested us around there but we had a nice meal up at the top and a look around, before heading downtown).

Just don't wanna see you guys narked cos you're sat in traffic on the strip all the time (or you're getting propelled over speedbumps at 100mph as they take the backstreet routes :rotfl: )

There's a medium-sized convention (50,000) the 18th to 20th, so room rates for the 17th, 18th and 19th are quite a bit higher than the Sunday-Tuesday of the weeks before and after...just in case that makes a difference.
