Just a heads up, I've just booked a cheap week away in November next year.

£1095 for 2 for 8 nights at the statosphere with Virgin Atlantic flights going direct direct and premium view room. Expedia have got an offer on at the moment for where you get 50% off a stay over 4 nights. :j

I'm thinking this is a good deal so booked it anyway, but can anyone confirm?!

    What dates in November?

I agree with sew109 that changing the hotel if you can might be a good idea.

Thanks Sew109, whilst in Laughlin we actually want to spend a few days with nothing to do but shop, sit in the sun and let the children unwind, but if you think it will be too much we can reduce it as nothing is booked yet. I just wanted a few days R&R before heading home. As for Yosemite I'm going to book one night but we are leaving 2/3 nights free so we can stay longer if we want. Do you think 4 nights in Vegas is too much? We are going to go to Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, drive out to the Valley of Fire State Park and the Bonnie Springs Ranch. Can you think of anything of else we might enjoy?

    Thanks

I agree with those who think 4 nights in Laughlin is too much...even with those travelling with under 21s, I think that the total options Vegas offers will allow for much more chose than Laughlin...even if your plan it to have a few days relaxing, you can do that in Vegas if you choose - but with more options. There is the river in Laughlin which is nice and side trip to Oatman might be an option - but 4 days is waaay too long in my opinion.

November 6th - 14th, 8 nights. I'm not too fussed with the location as surely transports pretty easy to get around? We're on a tight budget and if I can save some money on the hotel, I'll have a bit more spending money for trips.

The riveria was a second choice but reviews sounded nasty.

You are wrong about the transport you have the choice of Deuce bus which is cheap but you can wait ages for and then you cant get on the first three because they are too busy or cab there is no monorail stop near by and whilst probably not dangerous its not a nice area. Invest more in your hotel and less in your trips you will be glad, if you have to saty at that and of the Strip and I mean have to and are not bothered about the standard of the hotel stay at Sahara as it at least has a monorail station. The other thing about Stratosphere is that you will get stung for a "resort fee" which is paid locally this is per day to use the pool, gym go up the tower etc even if you dont want to use them so make sure you take this into account when comparing prices.
Its Vegas time -no longer :T a five year old has changed Vegas time to Orlando time

New TravelZoo (Limited) Mandalay Bay Offer
    http://hotels.travelzoo.com/las-vegas-hotels/511898
The AAA 4-Diamond Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino is known as a hot spot in Vegas to see and be seen, but that hasn't stopped it from offering this 60% OFF deal on several Sunday-Thursday dates through April. Stay for only $79.99 per night on the following dates:
    • Dec. 29
    • Jan. 4-6, 11-13, 25, 29
    • Feb. 1, 8, 19
    • April 12, 13
These are the lowest rates we've ever seen at this hotel. Dozens of other dates are only $6-$20 more per night.

Just rebooked under the above... it's web-only offer so had to phone and cancel, then rebook this on the web, but due to the prices we upgraded from a 600SS, to a 750GR room, and managed to save over $150 at the same time!!! (we're only there 3 nights as well!)

    Fantastic saving! :)

(also more new travelzoo hotel offers here inc. Palms etc)

Thanks for that - we have friends who might join us in Vegas while we're there but are struggling to find a decent rate on hotels as they are looking at coming over the weekend before NAB...this deal is better than Bally's Hot Deals rate for the dates they are looking at so have passed it on...doesn't suit us as we're comped at Bally's but may be just the thing for our firends.

I'm off to California in March/April for 21 days and planning on spending 4 nights in Vegas. It will be dh, ds (13) and dd (10) so realise Vegas is not ideal for them but am hoping they will enjoy the MGM Lions, Stratosphere Rides, the fountains and all the other non-gambling things. Any suggestions on best place to stay for a family, we will have a car but would prefer to have some time out of driving as we are doing a fair bit before arriving. I'm watching out for deals and quite fancy Luxor but from what I've read on here the suggestions for families is Circus Circus but it looks pretty run down and I would prefer somewhere a bit newer.

Also, any suggestions on how to get the best deals for Yosemite, Death Valley and possibily Carmel/Monterery.

At the moment the itinerary is:

5 Nights LA - booked Knotts Berry Farm Resort at £34 per night
1 Night Cambria (PCH) - booked Cambria Pines Lodge at £44
1 Night Monterery/Carmel not booked yet
1 Night Yosemite - not booked yet
2 Nights either spent as an extra night in Yosemite or drive to Death Valley
    4 Nights Vegas
    1 Night Grand Canyon
    4 Nights Laughlin
1 Night either back in LA or Palm Springs

Any advice on accommodation would be appreciated.

we just found a reasonable priced motel when we arrived in Monterery . think we payed $50 for the night. plenty of rooms in Monterery .

Death Valley only has 2 hotels so you might as well book the one you fancy now. they are both owned by the same company .

    http://www.furnacecreekresort.com

we splashed out a bit in Yosemite and booked a private cabin.

    http://www.redwoodsinyosemite.com/

if you are going to stay in the park then all the accomidation is owned by the park authority i believe .
    http://www.nationalparkreservations.com/yosemite.htm?gclid=CPiAht3X6JcCFYsh3god0nMyDQ

if you want motels you will have to stay outside the park in somewhere like Oakhurst .

depending on your arrival you only need half a day to do a fair amount of Death Valley but it is definatly worth staying there for a night IMO. we entered DV through Panamint Valley which was a experiance in it's self . we saw not another human being for over and hour while driving through , and it was fantastic drive as well .

you need a full day in Yosimite at least , and that assumes no hiking ect.

it is very unlikely that The Tioga pass will be open when you visit

    http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/tiogaopen.htm

meaning that you will have to drive all the way via Fresno and Bakersfield to get to DV from Yosmite . at least 10 hour drive from my experiance . if you want to stop somewhere for lunch i highly recommend the diner next to the Railway shop on Techachapi's main drag.

    TangoBunny,

I was there at the end of last May and it was hot 100 +, it really felt like being in an oven so I wouldn't worry about not having sun.

Try and avoid the end of May as the last Monday is memorial day, we were there for that weekend and it was crazy, the casinos and restaurants were full and the strip at night was real busy.

I'm still toying with mid May but money may be a bit tight this year so i'll have to wait and see.

I booked the MGM in January and rebooked two or three times between then and going away to get the best deal.

I have just been flicking through the sites again and my flight with Virgin is £493 from London Gatwick do you think i should book now or do you think this price will come down its on the Aprils 8th to 13th. The hotel prices i have found are £319 Treasure Island, Mirage £449. They are non refundable i think they are on cityandshow.com. Do think that i would get better deals nearer the time? I'm so confuesed with booking holidays and i don't no if i want to take the chance on waiting. The Virgin flight was cheaper a few days ago so i'm thinking they are going up.

that maybe the case , they know people start thinking about holidays after Xmas But they always have had a January sale on since we started this thread . so i honestly do not know , but i advise you don't leave your booking till beyond the first few days off the sale , cause they will only get more expensive after that.

if you do book now , book it and forget it , don't check back to see if it was cheaper later.

you can book a indirect flight with pretty much all the Atlantic carriers .

my 2 cents . add a extra day or 2 and Book Virgin into LA and the drive to LV . LA is place you should visit once in your life and the Virgin flights are well priced and very nice , cause you are not on the "bucket and spade" route.

like i say in the guide ...sort the flight and the rest is easy.

no need to commit yourself to booking you cannot cancel now...SO DON'T.

book a reasonably priced fall back deal you can cancel from the offers listed on the Fatwallet thread then just keep regular tabs on the new deals as they come in and cherry pick the deal/hotel thats right for you. The Luxor often has good deals long way in advance and it would not be the end of theworld if you ended up there.....just make double sure it is NOT a no refund offer ( i.e make sure you can cancel it for when something better comes along !!!!!)

The Mirage is great hotel ,( the only negative i can say from when we stayed is the rooms are little lived in now , but perfectly clean and comfortable) but don't rule out others of similar quality.

like others have said Vegas is really feeling the pinch at the moment so there will be no shortage of deals from about 12 weeks out i would think.
