Aprilmany thanks for your ideas guys .
Having spoke to the travel board admins , the best we can do is to emulate the New York board as regards to sub threads, which means seperate threads for different subjects.
i am inclined to agree with the " If it ain't broke don't fix " line of thought , but we do need some fine tuning, if we just reset the thread ( of course linking to this years posts) .'m all for option 2 just as we did this year, I think it works and maybe people can just help Tret's out by pointing out what can go in the first post, to make the 'trawling of the thread' a little less necessary
maybe we could also call it:
The Las Vegas Thread and MSE guide 2009 - READ THE FIRST POST!
then we could still use idea's suggested for the 'seperate threads' (and adopt something very similar to what is already being done) by having the first few posts of the thread as the different sections... So....
Post 1 in the Thread -> Index
Post 2 in the Thread -> Vegas
Post 3 in the Thread -> Grand Canyon
Post 4 in the Thread -> Car Hire
Post 5 in the Thread -> Trip reports
Post 6 (etc etc)
Then "Post 1" could have a short description and have 'shortcuts' to the other relevant posts.
If it's deemed something is missing further down the line, a post is just inserted at the 'end' of the thread and the Index points to that post...
agree with me! you know you love that idea!
i am reluctant to re write the entire guide , but definatly think it could be improved / added too.
The Grand Canyon certainly needs work, and i would lie to hear what others think needs to be in post 1(2+3 ect) .
what i think we need is a good round up
[*]of what is the cheapest way to visit TheGrand Canyon
[/LIST]- of all links regarding show savings
- and a better guide to the pecking order of hotel ect
i will attempt to start writing this , and i appericate any input on this and everything elseBetter in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
This information definitely needs to be collated by subject otherwise it is impossible to keep track of it in a huge 300+ page thread unless you visit everyday.
I would suggest that Tret's guide on the first page (or perhaps two pages) be expanded and updated regularly to add new information about a variety of subjects not just those on there at the moment.
Basically an FAQ which is updated regularly.
For instance - how to get from McCarran to the Strip. (Taxi is $20, shuttle bus is $8 but takes an hour to get there.) That sort of thing.
Or maybe a sub board with a load of archived locked threads if the FAQ is too big.
But keep any discussions in one thread.0 -
$25 a night at the Gold Coast. Decent place.

For example, it needs splitting into West Rim and South Rim, and for each one, the various options eg plane/bus, plane/heli, heli only, Hummer, bus etc.illegitimi non carborundum0 -
So..........only 24 hours to go.....woohoo. We're flying into SFO, couple of days there, then flying to LAS. Only trip there booked is Canyon on Xmas Day.....might book Copperfield as its only $100 all seats, but largely going to play it by ear at the tix4tonite booth opposite our hotel. Staying at Venetian for 6 nights then a couple at Caesars......will report what a $20 bill gets at both.
Thanks all for advice and ideas....hope the snow clears up.......apparently the VS plane this week was diverted to LAX as LAS desnt have de-icing equipment for the planes.illegitimi non carborundum0 -
MayI would tend to agree to leave the thread as it is. The first page is brilliant and if anyone asked a question that we all know has already been covered, just direct them back to there. If everyone did that new people viewing the thread would eventually get the idea, one hopes. If you were to scan through the 300+ pages on here and checked out the number of times the same questions have been asked and then replied to, you could have cut the thread down by over 100 pages at a guess.
So, if someone comes on and asks where to find the best show price deals, simply reply "refer to page one" no more, no less.
I don't think that the GC needs a separate thing, we might as well add California as well, or Death Valley. A small section on the GC at the beginning referring to the differences between south and west rim, and a link to a few of the operators.
I personally like it being long, I read it every day, even when people come on here just to say hi, that's what we are all about.
BTW has anyone noticed that you can't place indented paragraphs on hereThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
