Hi, been reading this thread for months as we're going on a fly-drive next month - Vegas and back around the Grand Canyon via Zion, Bryce, Arches, Monument Valley and anywhere else we can fit in along the way. So many useful tips on here that our time in Vegas is pretty much sorted! Just had a few questions on the surrounding areas I'm hoping someone might be able to help us with:

    1. I travelled around Utah, Montana and Wyoming years back, and generally found it easy to find motels as and when we needed them. Is this a problem anywhere around the GC region? We've booked rooms at the South Rim and Vegas and I'm planning most other sights as day trips through. Any other sights where you'd recommend an overnight stay in/nearby?

    2. My driving experience is limited - I assume automatics are easy to adapt to?

    3. We'd like to travel independently as much as possible - are there any major sights where 4wd is preferrable/essential?

    Thanks in advance!

if you are like us . 2 people , 4 suitcase , + large hand luggage the boot space of a 4x4 is very much utilized . i had a Jeep commando 3 weeks ago , and it was not a patch on the 4x4 Toyota's we have previously rented . i personally will always try to bag a Toyota on future fly drives.

    have a great trip

well October is nearly upon us i guess it is time to re start the My travel flight checks .

but everything is still full price :undecided :undecided so £500 + for all dates at the mo
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

I'm considering making a trip early/mid February 2009. Due to me having a smaller budget than usual I have these three options:

Stay @ Sahara and have £1500 to Sepnd
Stay @ I.Palace and have £1400 to Spend
Stay @ Excalibur/Bills and have £1300 to Spend.

What would everybody go for on here Sahara and I.P have the advantage of having monorail stations but both have awful reviews on trip advisor.

Can anybody give me some guidance.

Well I personally love the rooms at Bill's. If it only cost me £200 to stop there it would be my choice. The reasons are.

    1. I have never stayed at Sahara, but consider it almost an off strip location.

    2. IP is OK, excellent location BUT the elevators leave you wanting to kill someone. They are EXTREMELY slow. Another point is that you may end up with a Capri room. Not recommended.

    3. Bill's is so easy to get in and out of. Being small has distinct advantages, IMHO. They have less room choices, so you know that it will be OK.

Definitely Bill's IMHO. Let us know what you decide.
  • Maybe not the correct place to post - but will give it a go anyway!! Im off to LV in Nov and was thinking about getting dd xmas laptop over there - As heard they are much cheaper... Is that right?

If so, which shops are best to go to??

crikey - no, not had that - have you stayed there before (they trying to entice you back)? is it any 2 free nights you want?

i'd love an offer like that because more than likely i'd use it as an excuse to stay off-strip (ie. Death Valley / Zion / Bryce etc) and not have to take all the luggage :D

stayed there last year, does not include friday or saturday though and must be taken by the end of november.
    I am so surprised,

My husband and I both had it too...surprised as we don't play much there, but were pleased to get it.

We could use it, but are already booked at Bally's for 8 nights - 2 rooms...and the only dates that would work for us that are available aren't terribly convenient so will pass this time. Any other trip we would have double booked it just to check out the widescreen tower rooms, but this trip it just doesn't work with what we've got planned.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
