Casino Royale also have $1 Margaritas. Bill's has 99c Margaritas at the sports/rear bar. Bill's are the better (stronger) of the two.

I did not know about Bill's - thanks for that! We've many times taken advantage of Casino Royale's $1 margaritas, but never knew about Bill's. Will have to try that next trip.

Can i recommend "Las Vegas City Guide" By Lonely Planet series.

Just bought it from amazon and it is incredibly useful! Gotta take a loko through it properly, but on first look, it looks very good inc casino floor maps etc etc where to eat, recommendations etc

Ferf, the Bill's ones are pretty good. The same size (small) cups as CR, but they put the Tequila in first, then the Margarita mix. You can buy two per person each trip to the bar.

Hi, been reading this thread for months as we're going on a fly-drive next month - Vegas and back around the Grand Canyon via Zion, Bryce, Arches, Monument Valley and anywhere else we can fit in along the way. So many useful tips on here that our time in Vegas is pretty much sorted! Just had a few questions on the surrounding areas I'm hoping someone might be able to help us with:

    1. I travelled around Utah, Montana and Wyoming years back, and generally found it easy to find motels as and when we needed them. Is this a problem anywhere around the GC region? We've booked rooms at the South Rim and Vegas and I'm planning most other sights as day trips through. Any other sights where you'd recommend an overnight stay in/nearby?

    2. My driving experience is limited - I assume automatics are easy to adapt to?

    3. We'd like to travel independently as much as possible - are there any major sights where 4wd is preferrable/essential?

    Thanks in advance!

Automatics - easy enough, ive always been use to stick, but you get use to it quickly! I found no problem last year after a few miles or so!

the difficultly is getting use to the otherside of the road and concentrating at junctions! Luckily theres no roundabouts!! hehehe :D

If you're going to buy a phonecard when you're there, don't buy them from the machines in the hotels as they are terrible rates - go to CVS or Walgreens on the strip and buy one there.

It's been awhile, but I seem to recall a $20 card was 200 minutes back to a UK landline - sorry, don't know about mobiles.

Remember that some hotels charge you for calls from a phonecard (even though they are freephone numbers) - so you may have to go to a pay phone to avoid the charges.

Thanks, It'll be interesting to know how much it would cost back to a mobile, probably quite exspensive?

i agree with funkyfin - easy enough to get used to (certainly moreso that going from automatic to manual!) I also think that driving on the 'wrong' side gets easy pretty quick...usually when we pick up the rental I sit and wait until I can follow someone out - just to be sure I have a guideline.

One thing to remember - in the US (at least everywhere I have ever driven), you can turn right on red if there's no traffic coming - except where there's a no turn on red sign.

You will get honked at if you sit and wait for the green light at a junction with no traffic coming. :)

As I grew up and spent most of my driving years in the US, it still catches me out here - on occasion I start to roll through a left on red when it's clear to go and my husband has to yell 'ENGLAND!' at me. :)

FERF!!! You are right i meant to mention that of course...

also in california now, its illegal to use your mobile whilst driving..

i was being stupid last year and was using my mobile trying to find a house and turned in somewhere only to be on the complete wrong side of the road......quickly regained the right side of the road at which point the cops came round the corner whilst i was still on phone :D oppppppppppppps!

Have you read through the first post of this thread with all the links to sites that post Vegas deals? Most of which will take you to the hotels site and then book a suite from there.
