I'm staying at the MGM Grand from this Sunday to Thursday (4 nights).

Booked a Bungalow Suite since there were some very good offers on the internet.

Is it worth actually bothering to enquire about an upgrade with the old twenty dollar trick given that I will already be in a larger room and they generally are in a good location in the MGM I believe.

Also, if I use the MGM Check In desk at the Airport is there likely to be any difference to the room allocation compared to the main front desk if I was requesting upgrade/room with strip view or do they have the same access?

I think someone mentioned that staff @ MGM have been told not to 'accept' the $20 trick... and to only do 'paid' upgrades...

not sure whether this was a seasonal instruction though, or an instruction full-stop...

i reckon you go for it because i'd be interested to hear if it still works... :D

We stayed in a Bungalow suite in May, really nice room with a shower that will take your skin off with the force of the water!!

All bungalow suites are the first ones in the corridors so strip views are a bit hard to come accross but at least you don't have to walk right the way down the corridor to get to your room.

Heading off on Wed to Vegas for my brother in laws wedding.

Having the wedding at the Bellagio so will be able to tick that off my tick list - planning to do the following

    - Indoor skydiving
    - Hire a car and drive to GC & do skywalk if we can?
    - Do a show fancy Penn & Teller or Blue Man Group
    - eat at mon ami gabi
    - ellis island steak dinner
    - Hardrock gamblers special
    - Shopping at outlet shopping centre

    anything else anyone could recommend?

Arrive Wed 10.30 pm and come home home Monday.
Up to three or four of these can be done in one day I think.

What about firing a machine gun at the Gun Store? Could be quite expensive I think if you use a lot of ammunition, but a one off experience.

Thanks for the suggestion but guns are not my style - thats the one thing that concerns me in the US - the " right to bear arms".

Gonna do the gondolas at the Venetion and OH wants to hire a Hummer and drive to GC and do the skywalk ( only chance he'll get to drive a car that size and be able to afford the petrol!!!)

If you want to do the Grand Canyon, I would suggest the South Rim over the West rim. The Skywalk is major hype from all accounts, and very expensive for what you get. Having said that, we are cheap. I think it was still cheaper for us to drive to GC South, spend the night there, and drive back, than the cost of driving to and entering the West rim. The Skywalk is a load more money on top. I haven't heard of a single person who has done both and thought the West rim Skywalk worth the cash.

    Hi

There has been a couple of posts on here about people going to vegas on their own, and what it would be like etc,

I have been there on numerous occasions, many of these are through work, attending conventions etc, but still on my own. As long as you are willing to get out and about, and talk to people vegas can be fantastic, each of the places go out of their way to talk to you,

I was in the Irish bar in New York/New York last night, and had a good time, it is still the same old thing the yanks love the 'Accents',

So do not hold back give it a go!

Another quick tip Titanic/Bodies exhibitions, go to the ticket booths on the strip as you will be paying $13.50 rather than the $27 these booths are not just show tickets, you can have discounts from your foods,

I would agree with others, if you want to see the Grand Canyon you really need to go to the south rim and not the west rim, I dont think anyone went there before the indians built the very expensive skywalk. If you do the gondolas (recomended) do the indoor ones and not the outdoor ones, you have to pay more if you want it to yourselves or you can share with another couple, we shared but it doesnt spoil the experiance.
