If the 2 exhibitions are moving from the Tropicana anyone know what they'll be having instead?

I'd be surprised if they get anything until their future is determined...the company that owns it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this year...I know there were previously big plans to redevelop the Tropicana but in the current climate, I'm not sure how likely that is. I would think that any major exhibit would be a bit worried about committing to this location with the future uncertain...also not sure what the Tropicana can commit to given its current position.

That said, the demise of the Tropicana has been forecast for years and years and it's still there.

The museum exhibits are moving to the LV Natural History Museum

I'm mad at myself for not checking out the museum before it was closed - always meant to...something cooler about seeing the exhibit in a pyramid than in a 'normal' museum. :)

The Titanic exhibition is not bad but a bit pricey,I thought some of the items in its gift shop were cool,I just ate my lunch off a replica 3rd class White Star Line dinner plate.

You can get 1/2 price tickets at Tix4Tonight.

I saw the exhibition in Cincinnati in 2000 or so - thought it was pretty neat.

    Hi everyone

I've just booked my first trip to Las vegas travelling in October for 10 nights. Can't wait!!! I've read a few comments about the casino players club cards and wondered if anyone can just clarify a few facts for me?

I understand that they are mostly free to join but what are the conditions of getting them? Are they valid only for tables games? How do they work for an amateur first time gambler like myself or are they intended for the serious players?

I'm sorry if this has already been posted but I'm still trying to work through my way of the 137 pages of this fantastic thread!

    Many thanks
    Becky

They are always free to join...the only condition of getting one is to have a photo ID (and be over 21) - some casinos will not accept a UK photocard driving licence (some require a passport) but most will...they are good for all games (tables, slots, video poker), though at many casinos if you are betting below a certain minimum at most table games, they will not 'rate' your play. For tables you show or hand your card to the dealer...for slots/vp you put the card in the machine and that's it.

As far as I'm concerned, they are intended for everyone - what you may get from using one will depend on how much you play...I know that minimal play at some casinos has resulted in really good offers for some people...I know several people who have had a free night at Wynn based on very little play on their slots ($20-$40).

Each program works differently, though - so it can be a bit confusing if you don't know what you're doing...but you can always go to the slot club and explain that you're new and just want to understand how it works...in most cases you have to ask what you might have earned - they don't come up and tell you 'hello sir or madam, you have now earned a free buffet.' :)

If you are going to gamble anyway, it can't hurt to join and use your card - you never know what you might get out of it - even if it's just reduced room rates next time you go...but don't play expecting anything - it's best just to be pleasantly surprised. :)

Thanks Ferf - appreciate the reply. Presumably you just join up at the casinos themselves? I am a complete novice when it comes to gambling but do intend to learn a bit more about the games before I go.

I'm really struggling with choosing a hotel. I want to keep it around £500 for a week's stay.

We were going to stay in the MGM Grand but I'm concerned it will be too big and it'll grate after awhile.

What's the Monte Carlo like? Or the Mirage? (I know we might struggle at that price) We don't fancy New York New York or Luxor.

I'd like somewhere on the strip with good access, an imposing 'Vegas' presence with good pools. Thoughts?

The MGM is great it is big everything takes time and the staff do seem to treat you as a number (I have stayed there at least 5 times) butthe rooms are big, the pool is nice though busy and there is a lot to do.

Monte Carlo is a no no at the minute as the building works next door atr city centre make the pool unpleasant.

Mirage is my favourite hotel on teh Strip we went there after we got married and are going again for Xmas its a league above MGM we paid $72 pr night using the link below. I hope this helps

    Hi becksta, and welcome aboard.
Yes you join up at each casino. If you are staying on the strip and only plan to gamble there, there are only about 3-4 cards you need, as most of the casinos are owned by either HET or MGM Mirage. So, if you go into Caesars to sign up, that card is the one you will use in Paris, Flamingo, Ballys, Imperial Palace, Rio, and Harrahs. If you go to the Bellagio and sign up, that card will be used at MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur. TI, Mirage, NYNY and Circus circus. You will probably not want to bother using it on table games, as the play required is quite high, for example, if you are playing Black Jack, you will be expected to play for at least 2-4 hours and bet a minimum of $25 per hand, that's $1,500 per hour, for 2-4 hours EACH DAY you are there, then you might get a couple of buffets at the end of it. The cards are meant really for slots players, as if you were to play through that sort of money, I bet you would get your room comped for a portion of your stay, and probably some food thrown in as well. I play craps alone and have an average bet of $100 for 3 hours a night, and don't get the same stuff as OH who only plays penny slots:confused:
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
