I dont understand the logic. What cash do you take, stirling or dollars ? You have to change and pay somewhere. Whereas if you take a nationwide debit card you are getting the full exchange rate and there are ATM,s (well 1) that only charges $1 fee.

    Well said.

This is a money saving website, get a Nationwide card NOW!

If you open a flex account you don't need to use it as your current account just put some money in it when you go on holiday and take it out at ATM's over there, the one's in supermarkets(Walmart) don't charge at all. You can get a very good deal on the Nationwide credit/card for paying for hotel and shopping but not to get cash.

Photome- yes this is the basic rate, I just googled "2 bedroom suites" and the link came up. I've signed up for the email ( i think it also includes other hotels in same area) so when any offers come up they'll let me know.
Can i just ask anyone who's been. I have a N'wide debit & CC & normally dont get charged abroad. Do I understand correctly that this doesn't apply in Vegas. Do I have to pay a fee at all the ATM's?
Also, what is this $15 day resort fee?

The same rules apply to ur cards in Vegas as anywhere else in the world, the difficulty is finding an ATM that doesnt levy a charge, Casino royale have one that only charges a dollar and another poster has said that in Walmart they are free.

"For your convenience, a daily resort fee of $15 (subject to applicable lodging tax) will be added to the guest room account and includes the following hotel services: fitness center access at The Signature, high speed internet access (in-suite and public areas), free local and (800) calls, in-suite private label coffee, two bottles of water per suite per day and daily newspaper delivery. Please note that special requests cannot be guaranteed until registration, but we will do our best to accommodate you."

after all my complaining we've just booked flights for next April with Virgin.

Out via Chicago on Good Friday (stopping to see family first), back from Vegas two Thursdays later - £434 M+M.

On the flight out (airbus) we choose the same seats we had last trip which were great (and we can attest to SeatGuru's claim that they have more legroom than normal economy seats on this plane) 43A&C

Way back we have 61A&C - only one other pair left available now.

Since we've got the pair (for now at least) I'm sure we'll have a better flight than last time.

The fare was just too much better than anything else we could find - especially going over Easter.

Haven't booked the internal flight yet.

And yes, the NAB convention (110,000 attendees) will be in Vegas our last 3-4 nights...we discussed it and decided that it would be OK - total hotel cost should still only be a bit more than $400 for 8 nights which we can live with and will plan for the crowds, etc.

Quick replies folks, seems I'm not the only one who thinks sat night TV is rubbish. I've thought about the price, & I know it will be expensive, but our family configuration is odd. There will be me & OH, Son & wife and adult single daughter. We would need 3 separate rooms. I've seen the offer at Signature & for next May, its $179. This seems quite good for 5 people. Also, it looks really sumptuous, I can Soooooo imagine me in there.

katykat, the rate of $179 would be for a junior suite, and based on an occupancy of two people. A one bedroom suite is $80 per night more, and a 2 bed suite wasn't offered on the dates i selected for some reason. There is a sofa bed in the junior suite so you could get away with 2 junior suites for your party. If more than 2 people are saying in he suite i believe there is an additional $30 pn charge.

If that doesn't work perhaps if you post your dates and total budget per night for the 5 of you, we may be able to offer some suggestions.

i read back over the last few pages and there has been a lot of discussion about money in vegas. how to get it, what it costs etc.

last time we went we got one of those prepaid cards in going places (i think, it was orange and blue the shop anyway). we loaded the money on to the card in the shop and they put it on in dollars, this meant that we avoided any charge in that respect over there. we used the cash machines at the mirage, i cant recall what they cost (so i guess it cant have been that bad). Also we could use it in shops just like a debit card (we didnt though)

This year, we got a going places credit card, put the whole holiday on it at 0% for 3 months, have the money but wil pay it off towards the end of the 3 months, also for evey £100 we spent it gave us £2 towards next years holiday (not the biggest cashback card i know but we usually use them at least once a year for something so it makes sense)

But the big thing is that it makes you a VIP customer card which means you dont pay anything when transfering money or transfering back.

But what exchange rate did you get when you loaded the card with dollars? I assume that you paid GBP and they gave you a card with USD so what exchange rate they gave you in the conversion is what's most important I think...as Going Places is a high street travel agent I would be wary of the exchange rate they will give you. :) One of my colleagues bought USD from a high street travel agent about a year ago and got exactly $0.20/£1 less than she could have gotten at LinkFX around the corner from our office. Poor dear.

Will just miss each other again - one of these days we'll be there the same time. :)
