Thanks for the trip report, nvh! Really enjoyed reading it and you did sure fit a lot into the time you had!

That was me - well, my husband, technically. Congrats on your victory - I also won this trip, so I'm well pleased with myself. :)

One day we will actually do something with that website other than use it to upload photos. :)

    Hi Guys

I'm after a bit of advice. I am looking to visit vegas at the beginning of October this year for 10 nights. I have been toying with the idea whether to book a package via expedia/ebookers or flights and hotel seperately.

Expedia and ebookers have a 10 night package to stay at the imperial palace for £650 which seems quite reasonable to me. However I would probably prefer to book seperately. Delta have flights for approx £420 but the hotel deals don't seem to be out yet.

I'm on a bit of a budget and want to be as centrally located as i can without spending a fortune. I think the imperial palace sounds ideal and I have emailed them to ask for a price for a 10 night stay. Unfortunately they haven't come back to me yet (I emailed on Friday).

    So, my question is:

Is it worth booking the flights and waiting for a hotel deal nearer the time or should I play it safe and book the package via expedia/ebookers?

    Many thanks in advance
    Becky

p.s. if anyone has a better way of contacting the Imperial Palace then emailing through their website please let me know!

How many people are going? It can make a pretty big difference in the total price for comparison purposes...edited to remove part about end of October as you said beginning - still jetlagged and not paying enough attention. :)

You can check rates at IP's website and they do have Hot Deals out for October:

    https://www.harrahs.com/AvailabilityCalendar.do?propCode=ILV&showHotDeal=Y

You can't select more than 7 nights booking online, but at least you can get an idea.

You might find better closer to the day but at least this gives you a guide to compare to the package.

Hey Guys, I'm going to Vegas next week for a few nights, getting married and onto touring Arizona for a few weeks. Can anyone recommend a good restraunt for after my wedding want something nice but not too pricey and not too pretentious there will be 4 of us.

one of my personal favs is the 'top of the world' at the stratosphere, you will need to book in advance though, its a relaxed atmosphere, you at at the top of the stratosphere tower and the dining room revolves slowly , if you time it right you can see the sun go down, we had 3 courses each, a bottle of wine, 2 large glasses of wine, and coffees after and including the tip it came to about £100. you will NEVER forget the view and the lights and then you can have a look over the edge after from teh observation deck. its not as posh as some restaurants, but the food is good and the view more than makes up for the fact you have to go right up north strip.

its up there with the best nights i have ever had.

pictureseque and cant rate it highly enough, views of vegas from 1000 feet

Thanks for the reply Ferf. Its just 2 people going. I did check IP's website but as you say it doesn't allow you to book for anything over 7 nights. I emailed them to get their 'best price' but I have used the rate calendar to give me a rough guide. Currently it works out a bit more expensive by booking it seperately which is why I wondered whether i would be better off either booking now or hanging on till nearer the time.

I have only stayed at Orleans twice.

First time they kept my $20 and i didnt get an upgrade, they gave me a room overlooking the pool, quite high up which was fine, the second time I didnt ask for anything, and I got the 14th floor overlooking the strip which i was happy with. I would have complained if i wasnt happy, but didnt need to. If you want a high floor and a particular floor I would ask without the $20.

The biggest plus at check in is that both times we checked in at about 10am, only had to wait a few minutes and the room was ready both times.

I've always got exactly what I've wanted at the Orleans-room type, view etc by requesting in advance and would only expect to have any chance of a suite upgrade with the $20 trick for a one night stay and we're usually there longer so don't bother trying.

Book the flights now and hotels towards the end of the summer.....youll end up with something nicer than IP for the same money IMHO. About £460 in your package is hotels, so even booking IP separately, you will save £100 or so if your dates are say..........Sunday, October 5 Wednesday, October 15 $679.50

    Hi Froggitt

Thats what I was thinking. IP sounds ok for location but hotel may not be as glam as others. I don't mind too much about the hotel to be honest but I do like to get a deal. The actual dates I'm travelling are Monday 6th to Thursday 16th October. Out of interest, where did you find the rate of $679.50?

    Thanks :D

If anyone is after car hire in US, may be worth trying www.auto-europe.co.uk for a quote.

We've just booked an intermediate car for 7 days, including tank of fuel and 3 additonal drivers (must be over 25) for £121. This was for pick up in SF and drop-off in Vegas, with no one-way charges. Since a tank of fuel must be worth at least £20 now, seemed a pretty good deal and there are no fees if you need to cancel.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi all,

Could anyone please help us out here. At the moment were looking into booking accomodation between sept 16th - 25th (flights already booked) for 3 of us:

    -Looking to spend £400 (400 x 3 = 1200)

    - seems 1 room with 2 queens is going to work best

    - ideally a strip view

-keeing the location central to the strip

At the moment we're finding that alot of the offers going on at the moment seem to only run upto just before we arrive. So i take it from this we should wait a little longer in the hope that better and longer offers may arise (covering our dates)???

Also does anyone know what the Palazzo is like to regarding the cost of things within the hotel?

any information received will be gratefully received, Thanks

    Paul

p.s Could anyone reassure us on what the Virgin flights are like (who we've booked with) after reading ferf's recent expereince??
