Now I can sit and play poker and blackjack for as long as i have $$$ to bet with and the (future) missus is more than happy soaking up the sun by the pool. Bearing in mind we're getting married out there within the first few days of our stay, and having 14-20 friends and family over for that, i think that once they've gone home and we're out there on our own then we'd need 2 weeks to see/do as much as we can.
So, is 2 weeks really too long out there, would we be better off spending a week in Vegas then flying elsewhere for a weeks beach holiday somewhere?
Two weeks isn't long enough for us. We have just returned from a 20 day trip and have a 30 day trip booked for November / December. I don't think I will ever get bored of Vegas and the surrounding areas. There is so much to see and do. There have been a lot of changes in the last 7 years, your mate would hardly recognise the place.0 -
Sarah,
As others have said it depends on where you are staying, I was over there for my 40th but still love the theme parks (okay the coasters!!) so we stayed in Anaheim which is close to both the Disney Parks and Knotts Berry. We stayed in the Doubletree Guest Suites (number 1 in the Anahein trip advisor hotels). 20 minutes walk from Disney and some nice restaurants around.
We flew from Vegas to LA using US Airways.
Please ask if you have any more questions, probably best to PM me so we don't hijack the Vegas thread.
Stew
Stew if you like coasters and you go to LA you must have been to Sixflags magic mountain...if you havent, you really should as it has about a dozen coasters, highest, fastest ,longest etc etc. Thats why we stayed at Pasadena. I havent been to disney as it really doesnt interest me/us, but we loved Knotts berry (small and easy to get round) dont forget a pepsi can or bottle for a discounted entry, the wooden coaster there is great.0 -

I agree with most...2 weeks isnt long enough and I dont sit by the pool (wife does) we always hav a car an get out and about even just to eat at different places off strip.
I would like to live there so no trip is long enough for me.0 -
Thanks to those who have posted in reponse to my point about the duration of a stay in vegas.
Im sure that come the end of the trip i'll be dragged kicking and screaming back to the airport as i dont want to leave the place.
Parents went out there about 4 years ago and only had a few days there before driving down to LA so they're looking forward to being able to come out again next year.
My real worry I guess is having enough $$$ to spend while out there, hopefully a few decent wins early in teh trip will sort that out!!
we have booked up the Chapel of Flowers up near the Stratosphere. The same mate of mine who mentioned 14 days being too long also got married there and from what we've seen online its got consistantly good reviews. So we're all booked up for 19.30 on june 3rd next year.
Finally, for all those virgin lovers (and im talking about the airline). Tomorrow night sees them host a special online poker tournament for flying club members, where the winner takes a prize of 150,000 miles. Its free to enter if you're a FC member and Im sure you all are :rotfl:0 -

May2 weeks is definitely not too long in Vegas. However I would suggest you have an outline plan of what you are going to do/see.
We have been 8 times, the shortest for 4 nights and the longest 12 nights. On our first 10 night trip I was a bit weary by the 9/10th day, but I hadn't made out a planner for that trip which was a mistake. Now I always make up a planner with each day split into Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Night and sketch in which shows we will see, when we'll go shopping and where we'll eat. We don't still rigidly to it, but we manage to do everything we want to without coming home and wishing we'd done this that or the other.0 -
Maywell, sitting here in McCarron airport getting ready for our flight home. In a nut shell, the trip has been a disaster. 2 days after getting here I came down with a virus and have blisters all over my tongue and inside of my mouth!! Glands like golf balls and constant fever. Had to stay out of the 100 degree heat, and can't eat anything as it hurts too much. Still managed to do a few things that I will comment on when we get home but main one will be Northwest Airlines. Great service and nice planes. Very impressed, even if someone on the flight over gave me this virus. Will post on my dinner at the Steakhouse in CC, pics of our Go room at Flamingo, , another dinner at PF Changs at Planet Ho, and escapades at the craps tables. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

Sorry to hear about the virus, but glad to hear that you've good words about NWA since that's who I fly with in August (via Detroit from Heathrow and back from San fran to Gatwick via Detroit).0 -
JulyHi all,
Can someone please tell me the best place to buy Sim cards (possibly pre-loaded ones) in Las Vegas? We are staying at The Orleans for first half of trip, so somewhere near there or on the strip itself?
Reason being - mine & oh's mobile phones are unlocked (ie, can take and use ANY SIM CARD) and we will be spending time apart during the trip but will need to be in contact. Obviously it will be too pricey to use our usual O2 phone tarif, so I though it would be a good idea to buy am american sim and use this instead.
Anyone else done this/has experience of this/know where I may be able to buy relatively cheap SIM Cards?
Any help greatly appreciated!
