Sarah,
As others have said it depends on where you are staying, I was over there for my 40th but still love the theme parks (okay the coasters!!) so we stayed in Anaheim which is close to both the Disney Parks and Knotts Berry. We stayed in the Doubletree Guest Suites (number 1 in the Anahein trip advisor hotels). 20 minutes walk from Disney and some nice restaurants around.
We flew from Vegas to LA using US Airways.
Please ask if you have any more questions, probably best to PM me so we don't hijack the Vegas thread.

Wheres the best place to stay is to ambiguos..where/what part do you want to stay and how much do you want to pay? LA is one of the biggest most sprawling places you will come across with a population in excess of 14000000
I like staying on the northern outskirts in Pasadena, great for santa anita races and sixflags. Have also stayed close to hollywood in a days inn which was ok.
I have driven between the two about 5 hours ish with no detours, or flown for about $50 a head.
Hi,
we will be doing in a few weeks!! LV-Anaheim. We will be using the LuxBus http://www.luxbusamerica.com which picks up at 3 LV hotels and drops off at most anaheim hotels. It is $64 single, and is an a/c bus with complimentary food and drinks. Some people here and in tripadvisor have said that if you do this trip often it is better to fly, but for newbies it can actually be interesting to see the desert roads from LA to LV. We chose this not to have to book hotel-airport transfer and I am pleased that I was directed to this option. Haven't tried it though, but will report back in August.
We are staying in Anaheim for a conference, so there was really no choice there, but will be visiting LA using the Grayline tours http://graylineanaheim.com/, again to save the hassle of planning to use public transport or renting a car. It collects and drops off at most anaheim hotels.

OctoberWhen we were at the Flamingo last year there was no-one on duty to check however the lagoon pool was closed....We will probably stay at the IP and the pool is a bit boring there.....saying that though at least it has the sun for most of the day which the flamingo definately did not, mind you this was late Oct and the sun is lower and tends to dissapear behind all the high rise after 2pm:hello: LORRAINE :hello:0

OctoberThe Bellagio scanned our room key to confirm it was valid, but we only had to show our key at the Palazzo and MGM. At the Imperial Palace, not that you would want to sneak into their pool...., you put your key in a slot to open the door to the pool.
IIRC you could just walk into the pool at Planet Hollywood.:hello: LORRAINE :hello:0 -
MarchFWIW - we stayed here when we were in LA:

Rooms were quite nice, price was right, location was good and walking distance from the beach.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
PCG2001,
If you're staying close to the Anaheim Convention Centre drop me a line if you want a couple of restaurant reccomendations. We stayed just round the corner from there.

whilst playing golf at the weekend I was chatting to my mate who went out to vegas about 7 years ago. I said that we were planning on spending 2 weeks out there. His reaction was 'oh thats too long, you'll get bored'
Now I can sit and play poker and blackjack for as long as i have $$$ to bet with and the (future) missus is more than happy soaking up the sun by the pool. Bearing in mind we're getting marrried out there within the first few days of our stay, and having 14-20 friends and fmaily over for that, i think that once they've gone home and we're out there on our own then we'd need 2 weeks to see/do as much as we can.
So, is 2 weeks really too long out there, would we be better off spending a week in vegas then flying elsewhere for a weeks beach holiday somewhere?0 -
WestHamDaz,
We were there for a week and by the end of it we were ready to move on. The difference between you and us though is we're always on the go, we're not sitting around the pool kind of people, we always like to be moving onto the next sight.
I think with your kind of holiday (and marriage!!) you could easily spend two weeks out there with no problem at all.

JulyI hope yours is good too, did your OH manage to qualify for the WSOP this time round?
Mark
Not Yet!!!
He has one shot left on Wednesday night. He's been SO CLOSE at least 4 times (ie finishing 3rd when 1st gets package etc) but not close enough!
If he doesnt qualify on Wednesday then he is gonna enter some live super satellites over there - though this is last chance saloon territory!
The Orleans is holding quite a good Hold Em poker event whilst we are over there, so he will have that to fall back on if he doesnt get to play in WSOP (slight difference in prize money though!) - we will both be gutted, but - hey - we still get to go the Vegas, so who's complaining!!
Well remembered!

IMHO 14 nights is not long enough over there! Especially if you like to play poker (which can take up LOTS of time) and your wife to be likes to sunbathe (ditto). There is SO MUCH to see and do and restaurants to try and hotels to look round etc. You can spend one day in each hotel.
I spent 6 nights on my first trip to Vegas, 14 nights on my second and I STILL have LOADS on my list of "to do's" for my next 14 night trip in a couple of weeks (wehey!).
The days will fly by whilst you are there Im sure - but if you are genuinely worried, then take a couple of guide books to kill some time on the plane journey and make a list of things you would like to see/do so that you have direction when you are over there.
There are so many attractions - Bellagio Foutains, Eiffel Tower @ Paris, Rides on top of Stratosphere, Imax & 3D Ride @ Luxor, Quarks Bar (for Trekkie fans) at Las Vegas Hilton, Gondolas @ Venetian, Madame Tussauds (though its not the best one!) to name but a few - not to mention the new hotels springing up everywhere - Palazzo, Encore etc etc. If you truly get bored (which I think would be amazing) you can always try bowling at Rio, Cinema @ The Orleans.
I hope your wedding goes really well - if you dont mind me asking, where are you doing the deed?
